Latest rational for Iraq war makes no sense.
WMD didn't pan out. Liberate Iraq isn't really panning out either. The latest round of propaganda from the White House is that what they really meant to do was bring the fight to the terrorists and that is what they are doing in Iraq.

This is bull puckey. So what?! We sent our people into the Iraqi shooting gallery. Do you really think that the terrorists are now saying "Phew, glad Bush brought the war here to us, It saves us a ton on airplane tickets"?

Come on!! All he has done is created even more enemies and made us thousands of times more susceptible to terrorism than before. Just because we are in Iraq does not mean that the terrorists are going to leave us alone and concentrate on the troops exclusively. Jeez!! And no media outlet has even questioned this line of "reasoning".

This line of crap needs to be revealed for the dumb ass reasoning that it is. Good god man!! is anyone awake in our media?

1. that isn't the end of it, either

The "it's a battleground with terrorism" line is really about lowering domestic political expectations.

And just wait for the day W goes on TV and explains that Iraq was really also a jobs program- that's why it needs so much money, and that all the money goes to hardworking Americans doing patriotic duties (which they strangely enough won't even consider doing if paid less).

Yep, the Bushies are cracking the bones and sucking the marrow out of the trustingness of millions of gullible conservatively biased people, who respond it all like abused children to their cunning abusing parent. Mostly submissively or deludedly, but increasingly bitterly. (Wow- four adverbs in seven words!)

The brazenness of the Bushies is astonishing, though. I really can't figure out whether they are counting on getting elected in '04 or counting on making getaways to South America anymore.

4. "a mixture of gullibility and cynicism..."
That's what Hannah Arendt said about the folks
who bought the party line.

Paraphrasing:

It is a mixture of gullibility and cynicism which allows
the mob to believe the most outrageous lies one day,
and when, the next day, those lies are proven to be
false, congratulates the liar for his tactical cleverness.

----

Everyday I weep as the 1930s happens in front of my
eyes, and most Americans behave like most Germans.
I'm just waiting for the first liberal business to be
Krystal-nacht-ed.

2. I've heard this rationalization from RWingers on CSPAN for weeks...
...like the 9-11/Iraq lie...it seems that many of the Republican faithful also believe this garbage. "Isn't it better to fight the terrorists over THERE instead of here?"

3. I heard that also and almost fell over.
This group that send out their talking points must have a hang over. That is almost as good as that we kill more people on our streets each week. Two really awful things to say. Shall we take a bet on what they will say next?I have always been wild in my thinking but this leaves me in the dark.

5. I thought it was about sex slaves????
Anyway everyone of you are right, Doonesbury has been pounding this nail pretty hard lately with tales from rummyworld. If there was some kind of attack here what do you suppose would be the excuse? Maybe that the Iraq strategy is working?
These people are so fucked.

a success of US policy because we're "bringing the terrorists out in the open! When they launch a suicide attack it accomplish two of our goals 1. The terrorists die, so we're getting rid of them and 2. It flushes them out of their holes and exposes their network"

Just you watch, you heard it here first.

6. Shows what arrogant psychopaths they are.
Do they even listen to themselves? They are saying that we invaded a foreign country so we could use it as a battleground. The unmitigated arrogance and gall and stupidity is beyond the imagination of even the most imaginative person in the universe. We invade a country so we can fight in their neighborhoods instead of our own. We can kill their civilians in order to lure terrorists into their country. We are actually bragging about this and saying it is why we invaded Iraq! So, if China wants to fight with Taiwan, perhaps they could do it in California.

7. Good point.
It is amazing that they can just throw stuff out like this and no one even questions. I mean, It surely is absurd enough. We invaded Iraq in order to draw out the terrorist from Afghanistan.

8. My question is:
Why didn't Smirk announce this as the rationale prior to the invasion.

He could have said that after the invasion there will be chaos and terrorists will invade Iraq and begin blowing up Westerners and that's where we'll "get'em".

Gee, I'm sure he knew it would all work out like this, doncha think?
And surely Congress woulda said "great, go get'em"

10. Bush has done exactly what we said he would do.
Create a bigger terrorist threat against us. What bothers me about the right wing talking points is that they all, from radio to tv to newspapers parrot the same damn thing on cue. It's never a few of them coming up with a silly slogan or meme. They ALL start saying it at the same time.

And they have the gall to say "there is no right wing conspiracy".
