Tom Cruise: The Next Charles Manson??? |
|
Edited on Sat Jun-25-05 01:33 PM by ronnykmarshall
Not really. Since we're on a Tom Cruise bashing mood, which by the way the LOVE, I had to add this thread.
What I really wanted to talk about is Manson. I just was a "Headliners & Legends" about the Manson women and I wanted to see what the feelings 'round here are.
1. Do you think anyone of the Manson women or Tex Watkins will ever be paroled? I know that Chuck will never be out.
2. If so, which one?
I think that Leslie Van Houton might have a chance.

1. Well, Charles Manson is/was a Scientologist. |
|
Seriously. "Upon being arrested in 1961, "Manson gave as his claimed religion `Scientologist,' stating that he `has never settled upon a religious formula for his beliefs and is presently seeking an answer to his question in the new mental health cult known as Scientology.' "Scientology, an outgrowth of science-fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard's Dianetics, was just coming into vogue at this time. Manson's teacher, i.e. `auditor', was another convice, Lanier Rayner. Manson would later claim that while in prison he achieved Scientology's highest level, `beta- clear'."http://www.lermanet.com/scientologyscandals/charlesmanson.htm

12. He claimed to be a scientologist. |
|
Even those freaks don't compare to Charlie. Frankly, the only thing he's ever said which I do believe is, "If they let me out, there'll be none of you left!"

I always felt bad for Squeaky, though, she just had a really fucked up life, and went down the wrong path, to say the least...

6. Ol' Squeaks is really a mess. |
|
She never got out of the Manson madness.
Leslie will perhaps get out of prison someday. She didn't actually kill Mrs. La Bianca, from all accounts she stabbed her only after she was dead. But that is no excuse.
Of all the prisoners, Leslie and Pat Krinwinkle have proved (from what I've read) to REALLY except their actions. Susan Atkins may have gone through a dramatic relgious conversion but she still has changed her story of the light of the Tate murders. At first she bragged about how she killed Sharon Tate. But of course years later she said that Tex Watkins did it.
He's another piece of .......... work. He fathered FOUR kids with his wife since he's been in prison and of course has "found the lord". His kids are being supported by welfare since his wife runs his ministry and has no job. She has since divorced his ass.
Thank god for Doris Tate. She helped put an end to ol' Tex's little "visits" with his wife.

7. Have you seen Sandy Good's "ATWA" website? |

She still runs a website devoted to Charlie's made-up religion, ATWA. http://web.archive.org/web/20010514150113/http://www.atwa.com/

It's only a matter of time before she pulls some stunt and lands back in prison.

I've posted on a message board and one of her supporters basically went off on my ass.
She was saying shit like "all you care about is Sharon Tate because she was a movie star" and shit like that. She went on to say that I "wasn't a good Christian". I responded that she was right but was a fantastic Jew!!

4. I don't think they'll ever get out. |
|
Every time there's a Mansonette parole hearing, survivors show up to testify--especially the Tate family. And it usually makes the local papers. (I'm in Los Angeles.)
Here's something I appreciated, as an atheist. A few years ago, one of the Mansonettes tried the Jesus Escape Hatch. She showed up at a parole hearing with whatever gullible Fundie sob-sister she had conned in prison. Dressed very modestly. Got up at the hearing and blathered about how she had Found Jesus, would do anything for Gawd and Jesus now, etc. etc. etc.
The judge at the hearing said something like: "That sort of fanatical, unquestioning belief is EXACTLY the mind-set that led you to follow Charles Manson.
Parole denied."

5. Funny, Ronny...I've just been re-reading Ed Sanders' "The Family." |
|
Odd, huh?
Anyhow, I think there's a lot of areas which haven't been cleared up concerning Manson's involvement with Scientology and it's off-shoots.
Van Houten has been denied parole for decades because of one guy, Steven Kay, who shows up with Sharon Tate's mom everytime her parole is up for grabs. Not that I think she should be released
And I know this won't be a popular opinion, but I think Tex's and Bruce Davis's "conversion" to Christianity are in name only. They';re still fucking dangerous.

8. Yeah Steven Kay fights Leslie every time. |
|
Doris Tate passed away in the 90's as has Sharon's sister Patti and this year her father Col. Paul Tate. Sharon's youngest sister Debbie has taken up the fight against the paroles. She's a real spit fire too. I've actually got an e-mail from her. That's one tough woman.
It's a shame that they have had to spend all their lives to keep fighting the people that killed Sharon.
I agree 100% with your take on Tex and Bruce. Tex Watkins is nothing but a con man.

11. I seem to recall Linda Kasabian being free. In fact, I'm pretty |
|
sure she was living in my neck of the woods at one point. I'm pulling a blank on her involvement. She must have testified against the rest to get out.

16. Linda drove the car to the Tate house |
|
Edited on Sat Jun-25-05 02:06 PM by ronnykmarshall
She didn't kill anyone. She wasn't even in the house, but stayed back to watch for anyone coming on to the property. She testified that she was came up to the house to try and get them to stop, Voytek Frykowski was running out of the house and Linda looked at him and said "Oh god I am so sorry" and he collapsed on the lawn.
She tried to tell Atkins that there were people coming, which wasn't the truth. At one point, she got in car and started to drive up and then rest of them came back.
She was key to the case. Sadily I've read that she's been in out of trouble with the law.

18. Anybody else seen the re-make of "Helter Skelter?" |
|
Edited on Sat Jun-25-05 02:12 PM by onager
With Jeremy Davies, who does an outstanding job as Manson. The "extras" on the DVD say he spent months preparing for a Manson role that didn't pan out, so he got hired for this version.
Anyway, the re-make mostly focuses on Linda Kasabian's version of events and her role in the capture.
In some ways, I like it better than the original, which IMO focused at sometimes tedious length on the courtroom proceedings. The re-make pays more attention to the people involved, both the gang members and the victims. e.g., it starts out with the murder of jazz musician Gary Hinman.

19. I liked the first one better. |
|
The guy that played Manson in the first one was brilliant. I liked the second one as well.
I've always wondered why a big screen version of the film was never done.
I know that at one point Roman Polanski wanted to do a film about Sharon's life, but it never happened.
