Repuke christian ruined our camping trip
I've had just about enough of these fucking republican christians.

A friend invited us to go camping with a group of people she worked with. So yesterday we arrive at the lake to go camping and right away I notice a few cars with Bush bumper stickers. oh well I thought, this maybe interesting. I decided it was best to not bring up politics since we were going to be with these people for 3 days.

So the first night there was this drunk woman, she would not shut her damn mouth about how Bush was doing Gods work and how liberals were doing satans work. I found it rather amusing and just let her ramble. Then I noticed she was talking to my 7 year old around the campfire. I wandered over there and sure as shit she was preaching to my kid about Jesus and how anyone that didnt follow him was going to burn in hell forever. I kept my mouth shut out of respect for my friend and figured I would talk to my kid about it later and not make a big deal about it. But she just wouldnt shut the fuck up and kept going on and on. I sat there for about 20 minutes listening to this stupid ass drunk bitch try to brainwash my kid with this crap, so finally I told her politely that I would appreciate it if she wouldnt force her beliefs onto my child. So she replied that I was a bad parent for 'keeping my kid from the lord'. My wife heard this and she went off on this lady big time. They screamed at each other for a good 10 minutes and at that point I said fuck it, lets leave. We knew no one there except for my friend and they were all friends so, what would you have done?

27. The poster speaks my mind
As some other folks have noted, you were remarkably patient, waiting so long before intervening. It should be an interesting reunion with the friend who invited you on the trip.

I would say that greeting the friend with anything but smoldering resentment would be a mistake. Let her know right off the bat that you were and are deeply offended by the drunk woman's behavior -- shouldn't be hard what with the drinking and the proselytizing and the shouting and the bad manners and everything. You're not holding your friend accountable, and your friend shouldn't feel put on the spot, but remember that your friend will have spent the balance of the weekend with this woman and may be inclined to take her side of things.

33. Me too.
I'd have called her on what she was: a drunken, unchristian, selfish right winger with no right to talk to anybody's kid about superior values.

Then I'd have left very quickly, seriously reconsidering the friendship, and telling my kid that people sure act stupid when they drink too much, don't they?

I'm glad y'all got out alive, in any case.

21. Ditto...
You should have let into her right away and told her she could raise her kids however she wants but you're gong to raise your kid your way.

Told her she could spread her BS among the adults all she wanted - it's a free country - but she shouldn't be "preying" on your kid.

Then take your kid by the hand and say something to your kid like, "come on, let's go have fun doing (whatever) and and get away from the drunken lunitic".

It's actually a pretty good example for your kid of how some people are just looney.

Don't worry, a very similar thing happened to me when I was a kid. The only memory that stuck was the "looney" part. Kids are like that. ; )

it was the fact that she was rip snortin drunk that most likely made her such a "lovely" co camper.

12. You did good. In retrospect, maybe
instead of telling her to quit preaching to your kid, you could have pulled your kid away, pretending to have something for him to do. She would have spent the whole trip trying to start up that conversation again, though.

Or a more fun way would have been to pull her aside, politely point out that she was drunk, and that you didn't want your kid to associate with drunks. Yeah, that would have set her off, too, but you were in a losing battle to start with.

Be interesting to see if your friend apologizes to you for his guest's behavior or acts like you were the one at fault.

but I've been through waaay too much bullshit from Republican Jesus Freaks. She has no right to tell your kid how to live, or judge your parenting skills when she's loaded and talking out her ass. I would have just said, "you're drunk and out of control, and I'd appreciate it if you would leave my child alone as I don't feel it is appropriate to subject him to a lecture from someone who is in such an intoxicated state." It would have been great to throw her lack of "moral values" back in her face.

In my fantasies, if I'd been there, I would have gotten the kid, jumped up, and started singing praises to Ram, Krishna, and especially Kali, then gone on to sing chants to the Goddess and to the Grandfathers (Native American tradition), ending with the Protection Song. 62. See, that's why I don't go camping.
That and the physical discomfort.

63. Never give them a second with your kids, and attack them personally
How would you like it if I told your kids that you were a victim of arrested development and permanent childhood? That's a fun approach.

Those who prosetylize children are sick fucks who need to have their tenuous little selfish grip on reality shattered and made hell on earth. Ask them how they'd feel if you did this to their children? Tell them that they're bullies; children aren't able to form opinions about such things fairly, and if the only way they can sell their fantasy superstitions is by scaring the weak and innocent, it just proves that the gnomes and fairies and everlasting love from the big daddy just doesn't stack up. If you can't wait until someone is mature, it's because you're selling something that doesn't make a lick of sense, and messing with the minds of the young is child abuse.

Do not wait. Do not give them any quarter. Yes, a sensible kid can be talked to afterwards, but once you give intrusive bullies a foothold, they'll use it on other kids whose parents may not be so sentient. They need to be scorched immediately so they don't prey upon the other weak victims the next time.

65. I just want them to leave me alone.
Christian republicans aren't persecuted, as they'd have you believe, but rather they cannot keep their noses out of our lives and earn our scorn.
