'50 Dalil' author found guilty of publishing false news

KUALA LUMPUR: The author of "50 Dalil Mengapa Anwar Tidak Boleh Menjadi Perdana Menteri" (50 Reasons why Anwar cannot be Prime Minister) Datuk Abdul Khalid @ Khalid Jafri Bakar Shah was convicted on Saturday by the Ampang Sessions court for publishing false news in 1998.

Judge Mohamed Saman Mohd Ramli fixed July 6 for sentencing.

Khalid claimed trial to maliciously publishing the false news at the office of Media Pulau Lagenda in Taman Kosas, Ampang in May 1998.

The writer, who was,arrested on Aug 12, 1998 was charged under Section 8A (1) of the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984 which carries a jail sentence of up to three years or a maximum fine of RM20,000 or both upon conviction

1. Yep....would be great to go after publishers here who say Hillary is
a Lesbian, Swift Boat Liars are telling the "truth" and the rest of the lying trash the RW puts out which has now crept into the what "used to be" respectible publishing houses output.

The great publishing houses of the past followed the money "Regnery" was making with the RW Books and since they'd all been bought out anyway..it was easy for them to become another "whore in the stable."

I miss the old days when Scribners, Holt, Rinehart, Winston, Doubleday and the rest of them would look for writers of "merit." Folks who had something to say and yet the editors would vet the books and would never have published the kind of trash we've seen.

But...who the hell reads anymore, anyway? Do a tabloid book and folks look for the page numbers where the real juicy stuff is and then throw the book out. :shrug: Same thing for our fiction...pulp tabloid, mass produced.

Well...don't I sound like some "curmudgeon," here. I better just shut up. :D
