Danika Patrick***Indy Cars***Race tonight????
Acording to my guide:
The IRL "Suntrust Indy Challenge"
Richmond
6:30 PM ESPN2

To those who missed the Indy 500, rookie driver Danika Patrick stole the show. She finished 4th, but lead many laps, and was in contention for the win the whole race!

She scored HIGHER than ANY rookie in the HISTORY of the Indianapolis 500!!!!

It appears that she will be racing tonight!
I will be watching.

2. Are you going to be watching to see
... a fairly phenomenal rookie develop their talent in a somewhat outdated and mildly competitive racing series, or in hopes of seeing a hot little thang shake her ass across the camera during interviews ??

3. Well...Both
As a healthy male that's how it works. In truth her 4th at Indy was based on deliberately running out of fuel. But her 11th in the second race was the mark of a promising rookie. She IS young and cute and if you don't occasionally look at male sports figures the same way than I guess we have no common ground.Would you rather a promising female compete in "professional beach volleyball"???

6. I've always rooted for the women in racing.
And I've been a fan for a long tome. I LOVED it when Shirley Muldowney taught the guys a lesson at the drag strips.

One of the things I love about this rookie is that she is very professional, and a competent racer.

I will be watching to see her win tonight!

I was also a Lyn St James fan. She was a competent professional, but never ran in front.
She was also attractive.

Being attractive doesn't hurt, but there is very little "bootie shaking" in a race car at over 200 mph. I am more attracted to the commitment, passion, professionalism, and competent skill. There is also a little "root for the underdog", with a dash of "teach those stodgy chauvinists a lesson".

My favorite picture of Danika is the one where all you can see are her eyes.

8. I grew up in SoCal, going to the drag races in Pomona
I loved knowing that Shirley kicked the guys' asses, it helped me to see a women prove what I believed as a girl, that I was every bit as capable as any of my male counterparts. But as a young woman I moved to the midwest, very rural. One of the few activities was dirt track racing, the training ground to NASCAR. I dated a guy who raced a stock car, and I was always questioning why there were no females who raced. The answer I got amounted to no one wants to sponser a female. Sponsership is essential (unless you are VERY wealthy) and it was very much a social who's who game. Occassionally a female would put a car on the track, but if her car was running fast she would always end up bumped in the ass and end up in the wall. Always.

The difference between drag racing & stock car racing, is that in drag it is you, your machine, and your crew. In stock, other people can box you out or put you into a wall, and it is done all of the time to racers who are not accepted within the community.

So I am a little sceptical as to why now a women is 'allowed' to pass (gain entery and do as well as her abilities take her). I rather suspect that this is related to the 'NASCAR' voting block, to pull more women into that group.

All of that being said, I am very happy for a woman to break through, and, like most of us here, I am wishing her the very best.

4. She's pretty cute.
But it's not enough to make me care about racing.

7. Starting Next to last.
This track is a "Bull Ring".
3/4 mile oval short track.
Couldn't be MORE different from Indy.
