I haven't seen much on the "understand our enemies" Rove comment, so...
I just want to ask that fucker, what's wrong with understanding our enemies?

Ask any military historian, any military member from top general to lowly airman/private/sailor/marine. THE single most important part of the "battle" is understanding your enemy. What makes your enemy behave the way he or she does? You simply cannot win a war without this understanding.

Karl, you may win a battle here and there by throwing as much military might as possible at the enemy, but you'll never win the war. Karl, you piece of chickenhawk shit, here's something you'll never understand because you were too afraid to serve the country you've taken such care in destroying; America has two options, take your pick:
  1. Retreat in shame - It's already a shame the pain we've caused all over the world as a result of your corrupt stewardship, but a complete withdrawl (retreat) would doom your party for ages...rightfully so.
  2. Study and understand our enemies - This is the only option that will work for all parties involved. See, you're too fucking chickenshit to choose this path. You're too chickenshit, and you simply don't care about humanity. Want a comparison to Hitler? You're him. You care about as much for humanity as Hitler did. Put that in your pipe and smoke it, you prick!

Karl, if you read Winning Modern Wars: Iraq, Terrorism, and the American Empire by Wesley Clark, you might begin to get a clue, but you won't read it because you don't actually care about winning the war. It serves as a perfect distraction. You can rape the entire fucking country at will, and no one seems to call you on your bullshit because all you have to do is criticize their patriotism and your ignorant GOP minions will parrot that bullshit right behind you. It's sick, Karl, and you're sick too.

Karl, you are a Nazi, and you are my enemy. I will study you, learn to understand you, then destroy you. We all will, because we're true Americans.

To any freepers who may be reading, go fuck yourselves. You're beyond hope, you're done, you mean less to me than the corn in my turds.

3. If they didn't understand where they were a month or so ago,
they certainly understand where they are now.... good job in expressing the way that more people feel than they would like to know.....

4. Karl's M.O. fits right into the Strict Father mold...
Trying to understand your enemy, or your child, is an admission of weakness. If they don't comply immediately, it means they don't respect your authority, and THAT means it's time to get out the big stick and beat them into submission.

It's a very simplistic worldview. It allows our leaders to feel proud of their "strength" and "resolve". But it creates so much resentment abroad, so much desire to strike back, that it is bound to backfire.

6. you've made a really important point
and that is to understand what makes Rove and his cronies act the way they do. They learned well from Watergate, and made sure the media was in their pocket so they could do what Nixon planned to do with this country, and worse. They aren't in it for money as much as absolute power, I think. And the key word is "absolute". And this will be their Achilles heel. This country is pretty well evenly split between liberals and conservatives, and not all conservatives have drunk the Kool Aid, nor will they.

7. Rove is playing a game with the
meaning of the word "understanding".

He is trying to catapult the less common (and out of context) meaning (I use the verb form here): "To know and be tolerant or sympathetic toward", on top of (to obscure) the far more common meaning (and that in context): "To perceive and comprehend the nature and significance of; grasp. See Synonyms at apprehend."

(Also: "To know thoroughly by close contact or long experience with: That teacher understands children.")

As in, I apprehend (understand) the neocons, but I am not sympathetic towards (do not understand) them.

This technique is just one of many that the neocons use to manipulate and debase language... And they have been doing it for decades.
