Guantanamo Bay Cookbook
Edited on Sun Jun-26-05 11:00 AM by emad
'We wrote this cookbook to show how well these people are treated'
By James Langton in New York
(Filed: 26/06/2005)

It's known more for gulag than goulash, but now a cookery book aims to restore at least the culinary reputation of the American detention centre at Guantanamo Bay.

Several hundred recipes prepared for the inmates at the camp are to be published next month in The Gitmo Cookbook, including such dishes as mustard and dill-baked fish, and honey and ginger chicken breast.

The recipes - most of which use fewer than eight ingredients and were originally created to feed up to 100 people - were developed by the US Navy cooks who are in charge of the camp's kitchens.

They must meet the Halal requirements of the 540 detainees, who are mostly from Afghanistan, Iraq and other Arab nations.

1. They have a website
http://www.gitmocookbook.com

Gee, with all that great food, the writers are probably at their local recruiting station now volunteering, right?

3. I really hate to say this but...
Navy Mess Specialists are the best in the Forces...

I'm sure the prisoners are well fed.

I hate all GITMO stands for, but the food is probably better than they're getting in Abu Graihb. (Don't know if I spelt that correctly)

5. You need a good meal
after you have the shit beat out of you, or after you've been chained to the floor in 110 degree heat all day.

4. So torture is ok as long as you feed your victim ?
Shameful.

I guess, in the mind of these folks, date rape is acceptable as long as you buy dinner.

Would Auschwitz would have been ok if the dining facilities had been better?

Shameful.

11. Yes.
Part of the torture in the camps, Nazi or Soviet, was starving the people while forcing them to do hard physical work; as well as forcing them to eat both food that was either offensive to them (note the 'halal' part), or which would be considered inedible by most people.

Malnutrition was also a handy tool to keep the victims weak, and at each other's throats.

Many people died a long, slow death from starvation. Many people were murdered by gas and guards, or disease that their bodies were in no condition to ward off. Many people escaped one by succumbing to the other.

Feeding them better wouldn't have excused the torture. But not feeding them was part of the torture.

8. I wonder if the cookbook will include the Wendy's recipe
for Chili Ala Finger.

Ingredients:

Beef
Beans
Tomatoes
At least one finger/thumb

Hmmmm...well we have the first three ingredients but what about the last? Hey, Larry, go torture a prisoner will ya, we need a thumb and we want the prisoners to eat well!
