Happy Gay Pride Day to all my gay and lesbian brothers and sisters!
I'm a heterosexual grandmother and I'm happy to see the tide seems to be turning in favour of treating homosexuals as equals....It's about time! ....:toast:
I was just watching the Toronto Gay Pride Parade on TV....It's a beautiful, warm day in Toronto and the crowd seems to be having a great time.....Here's some video (it's on City TV-Toronto's site and is unedited)....It gives you the flavour of the parade\
The 4th one down has the Mayor and Police Chief...good guys...

2. Question is it okay for straight people to attend gay events
I wanted to show my support to the gay community but my friend scott says that I shouldnt go because I am straight and it would offend people who are at the event. Because I love in a small po dunk town I dont know what the ettiquite was.

As to the whole gay pride thing I wish we lived in a world where all of us straight and gay lived, loved, and respected one another and ones orientation did not matter. But since we live in a world where we must fight to be free I just wanted to say I salute you. And I am with you 100 percent in this in spirt. Keep fighting and all my best Danny.

3. The crowd in Toronto has straights and gays.....I imagine it's the same
in other places....I think in a few years the sensible, accepting people will far outnumber the nuts who are calling homosexuals evil and sick, etc...It's just a matter of time...IMO

I confess I come from a small podunk town and didnt know if it was acceptable or not. Scotts one of the few people whose openly gay that I know and I try to respect other peoples privacy. I hope no one misconstruded my question. I was trying to clear up my ignorance.
Hang in there people and if theres any way I can help support gay rights please im me and let me know.

8. Sure you can go. We welcome our straight allies!
We had our pride festival here in Kansas City earlier this month and I was amazed at how many straight allies were in attendance ... and more than just the PFLAG folks (whom I dearly love!). I worked the booth for my GLBT Democratic Club (http://www.kcpridedemocrats.com if I can get in a shameless plug) and it was great to see the number of straight allies stopping by to visit, say 'way to go,' and even signing up for our newsletter.

One suggestion if you go to a pride festival: Go with someone gay who can act as your "interpreter." Running into guys in outrageous nun drag can be disconcerting unless you know something about the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence! Also, straight folks don't always understand the different sub-groups and tend to think of GLBT as one community. So they are sometimes perplexed by references to twinks, bears, baby dykes, etc.

I was afraid that the title of this thread may been offensive.I am glad that wasnt the case. If there are national gay organizations that I can give a small amount to help out let me know. I generaly tithe ten percent of my ssdi check to worthy causes as my way of giving back. So if you know any please im with the information.

10. I can't think of a better way to use my 500th post ...
... than to say "thanks" to all the straight allies out there who are posting their best wishes here.

As someone who came out in the '70s and has lived through Anita Bryant, the Reagan years, the AIDS crisis, the rise of the religious reich and now the BushCo regime, I'm proud that the day has come when our straight allies stand with us.

May whatever power or force in the universe you believe in bless you all!

11. Tip of the hat to all celebrating Gay Pride Day
here's to the day when it is shameful to utter bigotry outloud - when being in the closet refers to those who haven't grown up enough to shed thier bigotry. :toast:
