Rumsfeld Nixes Independent Panel on Gitmo

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/06/26/AR2005062600448.html

WASHINGTON -- A new independent investigation of abuse allegations at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, "doesn't make sense," Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said Sunday.

Some Democratic lawmakers are pushing for an independent commission to look into conditions at the detention center at the U.S. Navy base in Cuba.

5. Investigating now is a waste of time, money and energy.
Gitmo has been sanitized now.

Impeachment of Rumsfailed is required.

Rumsfailed Admitted to Violating Geneva Convention

Rumsfailed admitted in public on TV that when CIA Director Tenet requested that an Iraqi prisoner be sent to a secret Afghan/US Prison that Rumsfailed did so. After four months a DOD Attorney stated that this was an illegal act. Rumsfailed then ordered that this prisoner be sent back to Abu Graihib but the prisoner was purposefully not listed at that location, also an illegal act. Rumsfeld also admitted to signing orders for tougher interogation methods which violated the Geneva Conventions.

Rumfailed has commited at least three violations of the Geneva Convention thereby also violations of The Constitution of the USA. Recently it has been found out that even more detainees were "ghost detainees". The fact that Rumsfailed and Tenet have not been charged speaks volumes. If Congress wishes to garner any respect they should move forward with Rep. Rangle's Impeachment Declaration of Rumsfailed and also proscecute Ex. CIA Tenet.

13. If they do an investigation
Edited on Sun Jun-26-05 05:42 PM by FreedomAngel82
hopefully they will question that CIA director. Probably doubtful they would. There's no way they'd fire Rummy. Bush doesn't know shit about Iraq. If you haven't you should watch the film on PBS' site called "Rumsfeld's War." It basically shows how Rummy is in charge of everything with Iraq and according to this doc Rummy told Bush not to worry about anything with Iraq and he'll deal with everything. So if they were to lose Rummy the shit would hit the fan.

12. Rumsfeld a day or so after 911.... "Afghanistan??? but there aren't
any good targets in Afghanistan... there are lots of good targets in Iraq...."

Who are these mofos and what the hell are they doing in my government... they need to leave now... better yet, they need to answer to the international criminal court.

16. Of course it doesn't make sense. Can't let the truth be known
Surely the Pentagon's own investigation is non-biased and objective enough.

17. "these are bad people"
these are bad people, these are suicide bombers, murderers, 20th highjacker from 9/11 is down there, these are people who are out to kill- this is the mantra that Rumsfeld always attaches to his reasons for not independently investigating Gitmo. Rummy, it appears that you, therefore, think it is all right for the goings on at Gitmo.

18. Rumsfailed has plenty to hide.
He needs to resign.

Really many of these prisoners weren't even connected to "terra-rism" and any prisoners, regardless don't deserve to be tortured to death. This is going way beyond the statutes of law and makes this country look far worse than China.

Bring on an independant jury and hang the violators of the law!! :argh:
