How Ralph Nader and the Green Party screwed America in 2000
Hello, my name is Ralph Nader. I never bothered to say anything about the Florida election because I was happy to see Dubya elected. You see, I don't really give a rats ass about civil rights or anything of the sort, I care about destroying Democrats so I can have political power. I would like to thank my fellow Green Party members for continuing the great fight against the Democrats. Ignore all of their Bush bashing, Bush is good! If you fight hard enough, you may just get a letter like the one I got!

16. That is the favorite "technique" of Clark supporters
I'm not saying the original poster is anti-intellectual, just that it appears to be the favorite mode of communication for many of our newer Clark supporters.

4. YAWN!
I didn't realize that there were STILL people who were clinging to this argument so militantly.

Just when you think that people might have begun to focus on current issues, a post like this pops up and reminds us that there are those who are more interested in debating what kind of hide coloring the dinosaurs had.... :eyes:

I mean, is there a point to all of this besides self-aggrandizement and verbal masturbation?

Like posting about something from January of 2001?

10. So rather than respond on the thread in question...
You decide to waste bandwidth with ANOTHER thread that has no point other than to say, "Neener, neener, neener"?

Yeah, you're worth listening to. :eyes:

14. That's just a myth -- but I hope it causes an inability to type...
so we don't have to see this kind of garbage.

Then again, if we were all smart enough, we'd just ignore it rather than kicking it back up the board.

Does that mean that he will go even "more" blind?

17. Well this may be a first...
I actually agree with you. :hi: This nonsense is silly. When I first came to DU I, too, blamed Nader for the mess I knew we were in. But then I actually listened to other posters and I soon realized Nader was the least of the problem. (I still think he is terribly self-centered) but he is one of those true believers and it is difficult to talk rational political compromise with someone like that. He had great policy positions that were, unfortunately, unworkable because most would never get majority support. But he did what he thought was right and the election was Al Gore's to lose (or rather Bush's to steal).

8. I'll play the straight man
I thought that they had disproved this? That the states that Gore lost, he would have lost anyway? And even if Nader had not run, wouldn't the Greens have just run somebody else or abstained from voting?

12. Hmmmm, lets examine this
Did Nader have more than 600 votes in Florida? 1000? 10000? 17,000????

How much did Bush win by?

18. David McReynolds got more than 600 votes in Florida
Do you want to blame the Socialist Party, too? Should there be "third parties", or should we all conform/comply?

21. You are working on the flawed assumption
that the Green party voters would have voted for Gore. I don't neccessarily think that would have been the case. Also, the Green party had other people trying for their nomination, so even if it hadn't been Nader, it would have been someone else. Also, wasn't there some fourth party person in Florida that siphoned off at least as many votes as Nader?

Good - let's make sure the Democrats don't get any Green-leaning voters - that's the ticket!

Edited on Wed Sep-24-03 10:05 AM by roughsatori
they don't want to court leftist-Democrats or Green party voters. As is obvious from the original post. But if Clark wins the nomination and loses the election they will blame YOU, not themselves.
