Young Repubs - Why not Enlisting? - Nev Columnist Wants to Ask
Edited on Mon Jun-27-05 12:58 AM by RamboLiberal
Here's hoping this guy gets a chance to interview the Young "Chickenhawk" Repukes at their convention next month in Las Vegas. Any Nevada DU'ers or other DU'ers planning to be there to confront them with enlistment forms? We ought to make a big media push to tell the MSM to go and ask this very question.

And while a significant number of Americans support the war, they aren't willing to make the sacrifice to go and fight it.

If you are one of those who supports the war, ask yourself this question. Why don't you sign up to fight it, or urge your children or others who are capable to serve to sign up? If you aren't willing to do that, then do you really support the war? Does that yellow ribbon on your car really mean anything?

If this war isn't worth interrupting your current civilian life to go and fight, perhaps it's not worth fighting.

I'd like to pose these questions to the thousands of people who will be flocking to the Young Republicans National Convention in Las Vegas next month. I would guess that a wide majority of them are in favor of the war. But why aren't they signing up? They are making a big deal out of collecting donations to send to the troops. But unless they are willing to strap on the boots and fight, it's an empty, and even pompous gesture, made by people who consider themselves too good to do the dirty work to advance their policies.

2. My GOP friend says her son is too busy to go to Iraq
He races cars, attends college, and is enjoying life. She doesn't want to deprive "economically challenged others" of a spot to go into the service to earn money for education. She acts like her son is doing "others" a favor. The GOP elitist syndrome.

Bush is doing well in developing a caste system in this country.

4. Dick Cheney said he was too busy to go to Vietnam
Tom Delay said he didn't want to prevent a needy minority kid from going to 'Nam and getting that college education.

Monkey see, monkey do.

5. Yeah right
those people TURN my stomach Erika.

Heck the other day I managed to make an old man go ballistic... he had his car fully decked out... freeper style

We have on the truck a suport the troops flag, and DoD stickers.

He parks besides me, "Good you suport the troops."

"Yep, bring them home>"

Damn liberal, he started gesticulating, at which point I planted in his hands the four pages of the enlistment form... looked him in the eye and told him, fine, give that to your grandson and tell him to get his ass to the recruiter! NOW!

He went ballistic... I added salt to the wound by telling him that he has been conned and soon he will have to choose between meds and dog food...

6. BTW - did you know the KR article much sited over the past
Edited on Mon Jun-27-05 01:34 AM by RamboLiberal
few days both here and on a number of liberal sites has apparently been scrubbed?

This really does make for gruesomely fun reading. College Republicans meet in their national convention. All stand firm on the war, but few seem interested in fighting it. Many believe they can accomplish more fighting politically to support the war on the home front.

Vivian Lee says "Frankly, I want to be a politician. I'd like to survive to see that." Put her in the category of people who are ineligible for service because they want to survive into adulthood.

Chris Cusmano, a 21-year old from Rocky Point, NY says that "If there was a need presented, I would go." But he hasn't considered volunteering. Maybe someone should send him the clips about how the Army hasn't been able to meet its recruiting targets in months.

25-year old Matthew Vail, wtih Students for Bush, says "I'm in college right now, but who knows? The bug may get after college."

The fighting and dying for your country bug.

(Late Update: Note this is from last year's convention. I didn't realize that when I first read the piece. So at least the recruiting issue doesn't apply with the same force.)

When I tried the link from Josh Marshall's website, from a DU post in Editorials and from another website - the Knight Ridder website said the article could not be found. Did the Young Repukes call up Uncle Karl to get it scrubbed?

9. Wouldn't it be fun if some gutsy TV reporter showed up
with recruiters in tow! Be fun to watch the Young Repukes spinning or trying to run like the yellow Chickenhawks they are.

13. Dude I can't go to Iraq my father would kill me!
He was already pretty pissed when I charged the $500 to his credit card for the yellow ribbon. Well $495 for that keg party plus $5 for the sticker. That was a firefight I wouldn't want to get into again! Plus if I went to Iraq my GPA may dip below 3.5 and then I wouldn't get as cushy a position at my dads company. Yeah right! Also my parent may decide to hold back on the money for spring break in Cancun. That would not be cool.Anyway I can't go I'm trading in my F-350 for a 06' Tahoe next month. Dad says he can write it off to the company! Plus if I went my girlfriends dad has a tripped already planned for all of us in Vail next winter. It would be antisocial to not make it. Anyway best of luck with it. You guys got my support. I gotta run. I got tickets for Toby Keith at the forum tonight. I love that "American soldier" song. Toby Rocks!Chow dudes. Give em hell for me! O'Reilly rocks!
