when you've lost a war & you just CAN'T admit it, it's called Vietnam |
|
and every soldier and freedom fighter who dies AFTER the realization point, was just wasted like so much fuel on a fire.
but really, it's not even a war, just an illegal invasion from a bully nation. an easy fight, pick on some cheap punk with no real army and look tough. it was never even meant to be a real war.
and the men and women who've died, on both sides, and the children and old people too, didn't even have to.
we have an unbelievably stupid president and an unbelievably dangerous gang of thugs backing him up, and we stand around impotent trying to think of some way out of it.
i'm having a bad flashback, i need some of what bush is taking to mellow me out.

2. 90 days. Our troops, the Iraqis, dead for want of 90 days. |
|
Edited on Mon Jun-27-05 05:15 AM by LynnTheDem
bush kicked the UN weapons inspectors out of Iraq, when they needed 90 days to finish their work.
90 days, which would have told us in April 2003 what most of us do know, what all of us SHOULD know by now; Saddam Hussein was telling the truth when he said Iraq had no WMD and hadn't had any since 1991.
90 days. For the want of 90 days, our troops are dead, wounded, scarred, maimed for life.
90 days. For the want of 90 days, tens of thousands of Iraqis are dead, wounded, scarred, maimed for life.
90 days. For want of 90 days, our image, our credibility, our integrity, our morality is shredded and ruined and gone, for generations to come.
90 days. For want of 90 days, $300 billion and counting of our money is gone.
All for want of 90 lousy days.
Impatience; a rightwingnut rationale for war.

the administration's rush to war was because they knew that the UN was concluding that there were no WMD, and no WMD programs. That brought about the need to invade before all claims of WMD programs ended up on the trash heap with the Niger yellow cake documents. Odd the administration has shown no interest in finding who forged those, eh?

3 months and we have proof now that the only thing imminent Saddam could have done to us in that 3 months is fart in our general direction. Now maybe it would have been a mushroom shaped fart but we'll never know. :nuke:

5. This Is More Like The Soviet's Afghanistan |
|
The invasion was condemned internationally and for years the Soviets claimed similar success to Rummy and his ilk...in the meantime the Mujahadeen were picking them off one by one...bleeding the military and subsequently the entire nation dry.
Vietnam, we sorta had a clue who we were fighting...in this war, we're blind and clueless.
Cheers

One important differences might be that the Russians controlled the urban areas fairly well in Afghanistan. The US is finding the cities of Iraq to be "concrete jungles." But there are many valid similarities.
I have a feeling that Afghanistan is going to be the US experience that most closely resembles the Soviet experiment in Afghanistan. I do not think that we have really had a taste of what is to come there.
