14 yr. old girl killed by shark. 'she died happy'
why do people say stupid things in public? i swear i just saw a report on the shark that killed the teenage girl and a man just said 'she died happy, up until the last minute', doing what she loved to do.

and remember the blonde teen girl whose arm was bitten off by a shark? she was back a month later surfing again. i guess she's happy too, but not too bright.

jeez people, think about what you say BEFORE you say it.

1. Jeez. Local paper here described her injuries
and they were horrific.

Several very brave guys risked their lives to try and save her. In particular, one man got the injured girl on his surfboard and started swimming to shore with her. The shark kept returning and trying to eat her hands and arms which were hanging off the sides. The guy kept it away by punching it in the nose!

When they got near enough to the shore, other people ran out and started slapping the water to draw the shark away.

These people were brave! I don't know if I could have done the same.

2. she died screaming

But in the face of such horror, people seek whatever solace there is. It's part of how they convince themselves that it's still a good world, and that life holds enough pleasure to make the fear and uncertainties worth it.

Can't blame them, really.

11. No, she was unconscious.
She lost consciousness almost immediately.

She died far too young, but the onlookers were the ones who felt the horror. Although some were more concerned with what they could do to help.

3. Well, considering that he was saying it for himself and not for you....
Allow the man a little denial to ease his pain. Show some sympathy why don't 'cha?

6. Yeah, just like the Bushbots that sing "LET FREEDOM REIGN"
for the people in Iraq. After all, they are saying it for themselves to assuage their guilt and not for me or the Iraqis.

Allow the man a little denial? What? Do you think he is reading mo's words right now and will go kill himself because she really died a horrible painful death?

12. Yep you're so tolerant you personally attacked me.
You are allowed to deal with your own limited abilities in debate in what ever fashion you choose.

So I have limited abilities huh? And here you are Debate Team Leader being all insulted that mopaul pointed out a stupid statement by someone who at one point or another will realize by the coroner's report or the words of the surfer that no. The girl did not die being happy.

Of course most of us (even limite old me) understand he meant she was happy swimming in the ocean before she died.

But if it makes you feel superior to take it out on mo and me, go for it.

4. No, she was happy unmolested by a shark on her boogeyboard.
She died in a truly horrifying reality of having her leg bitten off to a stump, in excrutiating pain, and the anguish of knowing what happened. She mercifully went into shock as she bled to death.

That's what happened. Death is seldom "happy".

5. Speaking of watching what you say
i guess she's happy too, but not too bright.

Bethany Hamilton, the girl who lost her arm in an attack while surfing, is very bright and a wonderful role model for us all, especially young people. Would you say the same for a football player who returns to the sport after being injured?

8. Yes it's a good thing the rest of us are so brilliant...
to pass judgment on others so blithely.

9. you don't have to be brilliant to pass judgement
and i'm not brilliant may any means, just stricken by the odd things people say sometimes. like when the lady defended pit bulls after one killed her kid.

i'm not passing judgement, i'm passing along a story.

7. These kinds of reports are filled with the brightest people
There is something about the camera that makes many people go stupid.

It usually is some lady in her house coat who came out to see what all the ruckus is about and no one else will talk to the reporters so she gets her 15 seconds of fame.
The truly intelligent people know better than to talk to reporters.

14. What he said makes perfect sense!
Up until she was attacked, she was having fun doing what she loved to do. Sounds truthful and accurate to me. He didn't say she loved being attacked and killed by a shark, but it's not as if she knew when she got up that morning that she was going to be killed. She was having a good time riding her boogey board until the very second she was attacked.

Exactly what would you like for the man to say?

My sister died less than a year ago from cancer. She died 10 months after she was diagnosed. The last 7 months before she died were bad, very bad. She suffered a lot, but I don't go around telling people about how horrible her death was. I talk about the other 44 years of her life, when she was happy. I talk about her great spirit and love of life. 7 months out of 45 years does not make a person. Nor does the last few minutes or hours in the case of this girl.
