Rove trashes the Dems for trying to understand the enemy. Then gwb says
"They're trying to shake our will," he said. "And so, of course, we understand the nature of that enemy. We also understand that there is reason to be optimistic about what's taking place. We're optimistic that more and more Iraqi troops are becoming better trained to fight the terrorists. We're optimistic about the constitutional process.

BTW, I predicted in a couple of other threads that optimism will be the buzzword of the speech.

Another example of rovian doublespeak...the worse things get, the more "optimistic" we should be.

5. Time of testing? Wow, that's really obtuse.
Would it be something like "we are now in a time of testing?"

If that is indeed the catch phrase, we at DU will have a field day with that! MKJ

9. It's gotta sound vaguely biblical, whatever it is....
"Time of testing" sounds SO much better than "quagmire"

11. LOL, you're so right, there aren't any "quagmire" biblical references
If there were, he would be quoting those references chapter and verse, and explaining how God thinks a quagmire is a "good" thing. MKJ

13. I got some vaguely biblical phrases Georgie can use
Free of charge!

How about: "Wandering in the desert for 40 years," you know, like Moses and the children of Israel?

Or we have entered a dark and dreary land where there is no water, as in Psalm 63?

Or we are in the valley of dry bones, as seen by Ezekiel in chapter 37 of his book?

Use them as you see fit, Dear Leader. There's lots more where those came from.

4. Talking to the insurgents, obviously does not fall..

...into the catagory of "trying to understand," neither is it negotiating with terrorists. We would never do that.

8. Optimistic??
GW: " Ever though my numbers are in the toilet - more than have the country thinks we are losing the war in Iraq - I can`t sucker enough of the poor people to join my kick-ass military - and my lies aren`t working like they did before the war..... I still remain optimistic"

15. In fairness to Rove, I don't think Bush has ever tried to understand...
ANYTHING. The words in his speeches might as well be the phonebook to him.
