But am I the only one who likes the taste of processed food?
I prefer potato buds to fresh.
I love spaghetti-o's
I like boxed macaroni
I like jar spaghetti sauce
I love hot dogs and bologna (and I even know how they make them)
I also adore velveeta.:)

1. It's probably somewhat normal
to prefer the taste of processed foods if that's what you're used to - especially if it's what you were raised on, because your brain gets trained to react to them.

I know my daughter has complained that I've "ruined" her - because she used to like regular breakfast sausage and hated the boca meatless ones, but after a few years of only eating the tofu ones, she's grossed out by the sausage ones now. She's not a vegetarian, but she's retrained herself (against her will, even) by being exposed to a healthier alternative.

2. My kids like that stuff too
we allowed that stuff as part of their diet when they were young, so they are used to it--it's learned. I can't stand "lunch meat" but was not raised on it. None of my three kids (all grown) can drink anything but skimmed milk without gagging--also an acquired taste.

3. You will be well preserved when you die.
Read a little about the effects of MSG and polyunsaturated fat, and you may change your mind.

4. You are tasting the chemical flavorings, read Fast Food Nation
to learn about what you are really eating. After suffering a debiliating bout of food allergies a few years ago I slowly made the switch to almost all organic, whole foods. Now processed food tastes like the garbage it truely is and it is very easy for me to pass up on the salted, sugared, bleached white, processed flour, nutrient stripped, chemical and additive laden crap that people call food these days.

There is nothing more delicious than freshly picked fruits and veggies and homemade breads from the farmer's market or from my garden. I am busy pitting, freezing, drying loads of fruit/veggies to eat during the winter. That gives me something to do as I watch the Daily Show at my boyfriends.

There are organic forms of mac-n-cheese and spaghetti sauce. For meat the last thing you want to be eating is nitrate laden pork products. Try to find some organic, home grown pork. The taste will blow your mind.

Cost is not that much of a factor as I can find some organic items at our local Canned Foods (discount) store and if I buy grains in bulk from the co-op and shop the sales wisely and purchase fresh foods from the farmer's market I can keep our food budget in the reasonable zone.

I also factor in the lack of sick days that my son and I have had to take since my diet has improved 100 fold. No trips to the doc either which is a good thing as we have no health insurance.

5. You're just hooked on sugar, salt and fat
Just mix together some lard, sugar and a bunch of salt and eat that. It would be a lot cheaper than the regular processed food, and tastes the same.
