Guess the quote. Chilling look into a cult mentality..
Can you tell me who said this and what he wsa talking about?

Seeing this shot through me like a lightning bolt.

"The departure from reality, which was visibly spreading like a contagion, was no peculiarity of the {redacted} regime. But in normal circumstances people who turn their backs on reality are soon set straight by the mockery and criticism of those around them, which makes them aware they have lost credibility. In the {redacted}there were no such correctives, especially for those who belonged to the upper stratum. On the contrary, every self-deception was multiplied as in a hall of distorting mirrors, becoming a repeatedly confirmed picture of a fantastical dream world which no longer bore any relationship to the grim outside world"

I redacted some nouns to make it interesting. I can tell you what it reminded me of.

1. My guess? Albert Speer, in reference to Nazi Germany...
at the point when Hitler, had he been sane, would have realised the war was lost and his days were numbered...

2. Albert Speer, talking about the Nazi Party.

I guessed who it was about (but not who said it) just by reading it. Google confirmed my guess. It reminded me, of course, of the Bush administration.

On edit: Looks like Spider Jerusalem beat me to it. I didn't see his post till after I submitted mine.

3. Scary isn't it?
I'll never hear "reality based" again without shivering.

Republicans have become a dangerous cult.
