Father rapes daughter, gets time served and probation
Jordan Mad Over Judge's Sentencing

Yunji de Nies

June 24, 2005, 10:06 PM CDT

NEW ORLEANS -- In the middle of his jury trial at criminal court yesterday, 37-year old Kevin Jones admitted to raping his 12-year old daughter. That ended the trial but started a new battle between Orleans District Attorney Eddie Jordan and presiding judge Ben Willard.

"We think that that prison sentence is grossly inadequate given this unspeakable crime that took place," Jordan said.

Judge Willard sentenced Jones to six year in prison, then released him for the two years he had already served waiting for his trial, allowing him to serve the rest of his time as probation.

"If a father can rape a daughter the way that this man did and basically walk away from the crime, I think that that is a terrible, terrible message for the people of the city of New Orleans," Jordan said.

2. But doesn't the Book of Leviticus say that's okay in some circumstances?
Or is it that selling your daughter to somebody else is okay?

I'll have to go look it up.

Fundies will demand she carry that baby. That's pretty sick.

22. True,
but I think he's AA...

I'm hoping there is SOMETHING to this story that we're NOT hearing!

I am seriously upset by this type of "sentencing". The b@st@rd should be castrated and incarcerated forever, imo...

13. California still has an "incest exception."
Edited on Mon Jun-27-05 05:18 PM by Senior citizen
I think a bill eliminating it has passed the California Assembly, but has yet to pass the California Senate. Anyone interested can find the details here:

www.protect.org

Basically, the incest exception treats a parent who sexually molests a child more leniently than a stranger who does it--they often go so far as to return the child to the molester in order to "preserve the family."

So if you're a little girl and you dad rapes you and you end up pregnant with an STD, the court will sentence him to counselling and insist that you stay in his home. Maybe that's why a lot of childrens' advocates don't think slavery has been abolished?

On edit: WHOA! I'm wrong. It passed the CA Senate, but not the Assembly, and there's a hearing on it TOMORROW, the 28th. I just clicked on the above site myself and found it. Please do the same and take action!

14. I don't know if you saw this thread I started this morning
this one father raped THREE daughters.

He was "shunned" by the church for a total of six months.

He went outside the Amish community and sought counseling.

The family moved away from that community, but are still together.

His oldest daughter is his staunchest defender.

18. If they don't have room in the jails
they could let out some with drug convictions.

I agree that this is horrible - there is no excuse for this lame of a sentence.

Edited on Mon Jun-27-05 06:08 PM by kmlewis
of a sentence, i would do something drastic. i would get a louisville slugger and pay a visit. i have thought about this before and i don't care if i did get caught and go to jail or something this person would pay one way or another.

23. Welcome to "Equal justice under the Law"
Male? We judges and lawmakers have pity on you.

Female? Get over it.

That poor child has to live knowing that what was done to her was excused. Any male children in that family have learned that, if you are male, you can violate a female and it's okay. In fact, every male in that community receives that message every time a judge lets a rapist walk. And it perpetuates again. Adn again. And again.

Smoke a joint? Prison.

Stick your dick in a little kid, get her pregnant? Damage her body and her psyche forever? No big deal....

My heart goes out to that child, and if it was my daughter? The judge would be irrelevant....that's all I'm sayin'
