'Super Safe Sunday' on hold after deadly shooting
posted: 06-27-2005

One day after a shooting that left one person dead and four wounded, Shreveport city officials today suspended all activities associated with "Super Safe Sunday" -- an event at the Louisiana State Fairgrounds billed as a place for people to gather and promote non-violence.

The Sunday night shooting happened shortly after the emcee told the crowd he didn't want violence during or after the rap concert.

City leaders and event promoters met at Government Plaza this afternoon and suspended the event indefinitely while they review options to improve safety.

The event is not being canceled, said City Councilman Theron Jackson, who called the shooting the actions of a "few thugs and terrorists."
