suggestions needed.
Our new house has a plank at the bottom of the front steps that says "The House That God Built".

Now, those who know us well know that Ms Uly is a lapsed Methodist and that I'm agnostic with a Methodist background. I have no particular beef with mainline, socially liberal Christians and don't want to poke the previous owners of the house, who are deeply religious and somewhat conservative (they prayed over the sale of the house and were a little twitchy about our not-exactly-closeted lesbian real estate agent) but very nice and who worked with us, in the eye. But we need to change that plank. God didn't build this house. A contractor did.

I haven't a clue about what to put in its place. Any ideas?

3. Can you take it
out and give it to them? I would replace it ASAP but I have no suggestions what with. Still, it would be a nice gesture to offer it to them.

9. If you approach them
and let them know that you really want to replace it, no offense but you are far more private about religion than that and that you knew how important it was to them they might just take it as a kind gesture.

10. How about: "I don't care what SCOTUS says, this house is ours!"
Well *cough* probably not a good sentiment.

I do like the word "Welcome," it says everything in one word.

13. I've got this sticker on my door
Seems like it could be copied & burned into wood. Little more elaborate than text, but a good artisan could do it.

17. The house Ulysses bought.
Seriously, when we laid some concrete for driveway here, we had the grandkids put their hand prints in it with the date.
You could do something similar with wood, outline their handprints and put the date with their names by the prints.
