Pentagon auditor: HALLIBURTON abuse "worst contract abuse ever seen"
Edited on Mon Jun-27-05 07:02 PM by Bluebear

Reuters - Mon Jun 27, 6:43 PM ET

A KBR (Kellogg, Brown and Root) sign adorns the Halliburton corporate headquarters near downtown Houston after the company removed the Halliburton name from the building and renamed it KBR amid controversy surrounding the company's White House links and overbilling allegations for military contracts in Iraq. A top U.S. Army procurement official said on June 27 2005 that Halliburton's deals in Iraq were the worst example of contract abuse she had seen as Pentagon auditors flagged over $1 billion of potential overcharges by the Texas-based firm. (Reuters/Tim Johnson)

"I can unequivocally state that the abuse related to contracts awarded to KBR (Kellogg Brown and Root) represents the most blatant and improper contract abuse I have witnessed during the course of my professional career," said Greenhouse, a procurement veteran of more than 20 years.

Her blistering criticism came as the Democrats released a new report including Pentagon audits that identified more than $1.03 billion in "questioned" costs and $422 million in "unsupported" costs for Halliburton's work in Iraq.

Halliburton's subsidiary KBR is the U.S. military's biggest contractor in Iraq and has been accused by Democrats of getting lucrative work there because of its ties to Vice President Dick Cheney who headed the company from 1995-2000.

Pressed by lawmakers whether she thought the Defense Secretary's office was involved in the handout and running of contracts to KBR, Greenhouse replied: "That is true."

9. No, best war profiteering, ever.
They'd have been in bankruptcy a long time ago if they had to make it on their own without government no bid contracts.

30. I wish that was surprising, but it's SOP for these Evil Asshats!
They are weeding out all the HONEST and DECENT people
everywhere that their tentacles reach; and they
won't stop until our entire system is completely CORRUPT from the top down.

It will take a GENERATION to undo the damage they have done
to the inner workings of our nation.

17. Yeah. They wouldn't leave their competitors stuck on the open
road after coming under "insurgent" fire either.

No, they wouldn't do that.

They wouldn't threaten any employee who talked to auditors with being transferred to a camp under fire either.

Nah, they wouldn't do that.

25. When I heard the Lloyd & Owen CEO tell that story about being attacked,
I KNEW Halliburton had set them up! Halliburton knew there had been attacks on that very road in previous days and didn't bother to tell the Lloyd/Owen people about them. Halliburton was trying to get rid of their competition. IMCPO

Edited on Tue Jun-28-05 01:27 AM by me b zola
For anyone who hasn't seen it yet, I highly recomend this PBS, Frontline documentary that looks at the privatization of chimp's war.
All of those "overcharges", better known as fraud, seems to be the reason why 'Camp KBR' exists. This is what our men & women are dying for. :grr:  :grr:

24. The Halliburton Hearing has been repeating on C-SPAN.
Catch it if you can! It will piss you off, beyond belief. Ms. Greenhouse is one hell of a witness. She has worked in the government for 20 years and takes her job VERY seriously. When you hear her testimony, you have NO DOUBT she is telling the truth.

The Halliburton FRAUD is OBSCENE!

27. Cheney's worse contract abuse.....
While we are on the subject of Halburton. Is it true that Cheney has not divested himself of his Halburton interests?

I vaguely remember something being said way back in the election cycle that instead of divesting, his intersts we placed in a sort of holding account, so he'd not recieve the payments etc. till he leaves the position of VP.

Did I remember this correctly? If so, where can I find a link to a story etc.
If not correct, when did he divest, etc.

Details, people, I have to cross swords w/ a freeper friend...

Thanks folk,
Chris
