Damage control: US commander refutes Rumsfeld on meeting terrorist leaders
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. forces have not held talks with insurgent leaders involved in attacks in Iraq but may do so soon, the U.S. commander in Iraq said on Monday in remarks that appeared to differ from those of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

On Sunday Rumsfeld said meetings between U.S. representatives and insurgent commanders "go on all the time."

Asked by a reporter whether U.S. forces had met with "known leaders of the insurgency who have been involved directly in attacks against U.S. and Iraqi forces," Army Gen. George Casey said: "Not yet. Not, to the best of my knowledge, yet."

"We may start moving there, but the first thing we want to do is meet with Sunni leaders. And a lot of these folks claim they have leverage over the insurgents that we've yet to see realized, frankly," Casey said.

2. I saw Rummy on two different shows
I remember that on one, he looked really shocked by that question, but on the other, he took it in stride.

There was a different question on the second show that wasn't asked on the first one, and he flipped. This was Russert asked him about the number of Iraqi people trained (we need 107 battallions, but there are only 3 that are currently ready...something like that). Rummy claimed you had to look at it differently, and did a verbal dance around the question. When Russert brought him back around to the original question, how many battallions are ready, Rummy exclaimed "You can't do it that way!"

6. You could tell when a question was asked if he was prepped for it or not
If he wasn't, he literally danced in his seat, squirming, the arm movements got more prolific. If he was, he just regurgitated whatever they told him to say.

7. Rummy's just fussing at the lap dog press to make them heel again
Occasionally, trained animals get out of control and need to be switched or yelled at or otherwise punished.

Herr Rumsfled was merely snapping at Rusty to get him back in line.

You will notice that Rusty never did get his teeth into Rumsfeld properly, but merely yapped at him harmlessly.

9. I was actually shocked that Russert pushed as hard as he did
I figured when Rummy danced and wandered off topic, it would just be dropped. That didn't happen, he brought him back to it.

10. Oh, and didja notice he didn't answer again
After rebuking a trained pet once, if he continues to misbehave, sometimes withholding affection or attention is effective.
