1. That was an incredible story....
Long time Village Voice writer Richard Goldstein, who was there, wrote
a great article about the riots that I read years ago.

2. There was a great special on PBS (where else?)
several years ago that interviewed gays and lesbians who had long been habitues of the Stonewall area who talked about what it had been like before the riots, how cops would bust any woman who wasn't wearing ruffles or lace and any man who even TALKED to another man in that area. It sounded completely horrible.

After the riots the cops finally had some respect for gays and lesbians. There's nothing like getting your ass kicked to instill a little respect for someone you'd always held in contempt, I guess, and the Stonewall was no longer considered a place they could make easy arrests.

Gay rights are human rights. I salute anyone who was involved in that riot. It was necessary.

3. I heard the cops found some of their own among the patrons
and that was kind of an eye-opener for them. I saw a blurb on it in the paper today. Its a bit of interesting americana history you dont hear too much about

of college,shrub was nice and sedate and safe and insulated.
