Got a phone call after my Letter to the editor was printed in the paper.. |
|
relatives calling, who have been avoiding any talk about the Iraq War at family functions, to give me an "atta boy" and that they agreed with me 100 percent.
Bush is a war criminal.

4. If he or she wants to protect their privacy they can't. |
|
Because if they post the letter, then anyone who searches keywords from it can find out his or her name, which was surely published with the letter.
I've had several LTTEs printed, but I can never talk about them here, because they are printed with my real name.

A friend in TN wrote a LTTE years ago during Bush41. He got nasty phone calls for the next week.

A year and a half ago, Time magazine published a letter of mine that was in response to a commentary by Michael Kinsley titled "Why Bush Angers Liberals." I don't have the original commentary, but here is the slightly edited version of my letter that was published:
Our anger at the Bush presidency goes much deeper than policy or personality. We are furious at how this administration has exploited the grief, fear, and patriotism of the American people for political and financial gain. Our nation has been plunged into war under false pretenses, our young people in uniform are being needlessly sacrificed, and our grandchildren will be forced to foot the bill. The question should be, Why aren't more people angry?
I don't subscribe to Time -- I think I posted the LTTE from a link in a DU thread. I didn't even know it was published until I got a phone call from an old friend of my father (who passed away in 1985). He recognized my last name and was able to find my number. We talked for about half an hour, and he recounted the times he and my father were lefties back in the early 50's. He clipped the page from Time and sent it to me, which I used here to transcribe my LTTE.
Keep writing folks, and good things can happen!

9. Here we are allowed one letter a month at 350 words, |
|
so I get one a month published...I get calls from people I know, and people from the local Democratic Party send me letters agreeing and urging me to continue, because they do get calls from people of the other party, calling them to ask about what I write...I guess there has been some conversions...anyway, they keep inviting me to meetings, but they are always on Thursday nights and I have art classes to teach on Thursday nights, so I'm going to try and set up my classes for Monday nights next season...
