What if Smirk didn't run...
What if Smirk -- being the spoiled rich kid that he is -- decided he didn't like this game anymore because the other kids weren't letting him have his way and left for good to the pig farm?

Besides jubilations from us Dems and a sigh of relief from the country what would happen to the repugs and the fundies?

I think it would be fun to watch them really destruct.

2. If the polls keep trending the way they have been he will not run
It won't be his choice though.

3. it would be great
but IMHO his office is the only thing keeping him from indictment and conviction on a host of offenses.

Unfortunately, he will do more destruction before he goes.

5. If Smirk doesn't run
Then Al Gore will probably throw his hat into the race.

When Gore said he wouldn't seek the nomination, his main reason was because he didn't want to run against W.

6. Actually, if he didn't run,
don't you think the repubs would have a better chance of winning? Smirk is on his way down - rapidly. What would scare me is if they actually put up a candidate that would be more electable than *.

8. A new Repug president would have no chance of winning
But the Repugs may save more congressional seats if he doesn't. Coattails go in both diresctions. Where Bush goes, so does the other wingnuts. That is what the Rethugs are worried about now.

14. John McCain might have a chance
just thought I'd throw that out there...

Sure would negate the Clark or Kerry foreign affairs advantage.

13. the new republican would have to distance themselves from Bush
the race would be a contest b/w dems and republicans fighting to bash Bush the hardest. Sounds good to me, sounds like something that could win the presidency and both houses of Congress for the dems, the way the dems swept Illinois due to George Ryan. :-)

7. I can't believe
he wouldn't run again. How would the powers that be get him out of there? Who would run in his place? Jethro?

9. He hasn't finished avenging Daddy's unfinished biz
He got the the cut for "his" guys to correct what he sees as Poppy's big boo-boo

He went into Iraq after Saddam to finish Daddy's war - or so he thinks - it will be neverending

Now he has to win re-election - any way he can - to show Pops he is better than he was.

I have always thought all of these things were "personal" with Smirk, rather than founded on any judgement. He will lay a shattered, bankrupt country at Dad's feet and say - "You couldn't do it, but I did" - Are you finally proud of me? Now do you see I am better than you?

10. I think he hates the job
He's so unfit for this position that it is obvious to the entire world (save for a few freepers).

I think he's miserable and hates it. He probably believes that Jayzus would get mad at him if he quits, so he has to stick it out.

11. The GOP would have a nervous breakdown
Can you imagine the freerepublic crew? They'd probably write him in.

I have expected smirky to walk off for awhile now.

Remember, he refused to go to Europe to that G8 meeting because they would not guarantee him a standing ovation. Crybaby needs to run quickly back to Crawford!
