ballgames, golfing, or enjoying a summer evening in the backyard. The bars will have their televisions tuned to Twins baseball.

Poll numbers, baby. I sooo hope we jump on this! No major trial to distract. Gas prices up the wazoo. Hot steamy weather. One car bomb after another. Closing in on 1450 Am's dead. Four times that wounded = amputees. Something close to 20,000 dead Iraqis. Maybe the rest of the nation is starting to pay attention? Now's the time!

6. I don't know how factual this is but he's only listed on ABC on Charter. |
|
I just checked my cable program listings and "The President" is only listed on one main chanel at 8PM. I HOPE that's the case! It should give a very good indication to how many people actually want to listen to him! If the public is given several options, will they tune into Shrub? I'll be interested to see. I sure don't plan on watching. I plan to depend on reports on DU to tell me how bad he was.

7. bwahaha on two fronts... first "if..." not "you can watch.." |
|
sublte presupposition that many aren't that interested.
second, of course, is that they are only showing it on cable, rather than preempting regular programing. Big shift back to pre 911 treatment of bush (back when he was about as popular as he is today - not very.)
Is anyone besides neocons still spouting the phase..."popular president..." that seemed to be used LONG after it was apparent that he was no longer "popular."

But cue cards don't work, the dumb bastard can't read. Instead they have opted for the handy transmitter and earphone option.

11. This is actually shameful arrogance on the parts of the corporate titans |
|
I have no liking of Bush and might well not even watch the speech. But it is nothing short of outrageous that any President giving a major address can't get the TV time to do so on the broadcast system which is given free to these people so they can serve the public good. They started this crap with Clinton and now they are continuing it with Bush. They are our airwaves and should be serving our interests. Bush hardly gives a ton of speeches like this and the speech should be covered.

14. You are thinking of some other country, where the corporate media |

provides public service in return for their use of public airwaves. In *'s America, it's all about the corporations now.

13. The Networks Lose Two Hours For Each Hour Of Bunnypants & Low "Q" Rating |
|
When will this regime learn, if they want to be on the major networks, don't schedule a conference at 8:00 or 9:00pm...cause in the goofy ratings world of television, even if Bunnypants sticks to the hour...or even less, the networks can suffer ratingswise for two, not one hour.
I wish I could get a copy of the report of "Q" ratings...a system advertising agencies and others use to gauge the "likeability" of a person. For example, your company wants a TV pitchman...this is your guide. A recent test was run on Bunnypants and his numbers were abysmal. Surely this is on network desks as well. He not only doesn't attract and audience, he'll drive a majority away. This is a big contrast with Clinton...who maintained and still maintains a high Q rating.
Since people don't set their watches (or most) to exact show times, if people tune in and see his assholiness stumbling away, they'll tune elsewhere and there's a good chance they won't come back for a while. Yep, they'll check out the draft on ESPN or what movie is showing on another channel or so on...thinking their network show is cancelled. A large enough number not only vanishes to hurt the ratings for the hour the doofus is drooling, but it carries over into the next hour as well.
Thanks to this marvelous economy this regime has foistered upon us, advertising revenue is tighter than ever. This is a real problem we have with "retaking the media"; since with the decreased revenues, those buying have far more influence. But it's also now a problem with this regime as their lapdog media needs to run CSI or a Dateline rerun than their manchild. Not as though he was going to say anything.
My television has a terrible allergy to the image of Commander Bunnypants. His image...except when shown on TDS or Countdown, immediately creates a reaction that results in a fast channel change. I'll catch up on the "highlights" in LBN.

17. I think that the majors are sick of carrying these staged PR stunts |
|
where he reads his drivel in front of hand picked groups that are compelled to applaud every bit of nonsense that escapes from his mouth.
If the numbnut would do actual press conferences or do these addresses from the confines of the Oval Office I think the networks would be more willing to cover them as "news events".

20. I remember hearing that some networks pulled their coverage |
|
midway through that speech when they realized he had not intent of going beyond his old "blah, blah, blah".
I believe that was actually an afternoon speech but don't know what month it ran.
I also recall that some networks dropped out of the news conference during sweeps a month or two back once 9 p.m. hit as well.
