NC Democratic Party Chair Welcomes Bush to North Carolina
http://www.democrats.org/a/2005/06/nc_democratic_p.php

Raleigh--North Carolina Democratic Party Chair Jerry Meek made the following statement concerning President Bush's speech at Fort Bragg tonight:

"As Chair of the North Carolina Democratic Party, I welcome George Bush to North Carolina and to my home county, Cumberland County. Maybe during this trip, North Carolinians will finally get some honest answers.

"Maybe he'll tell us the real reasons we went to war and if the administration ever had a plan for winning the peace. Maybe he'll tell us how long we can expect to be in Iraq and how much we'll spend beyond the $200 billion we've already spent. Perhaps he'll tell us why Osama Bin Ladin -- the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks -- is still at large and never mentioned by his administration. Maybe he'll tell us why he pushed through tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans while our troops lack the armor they need to protect themselves. Maybe he'll explain why his 2006 budget slashes local impact funding -- money used by military communities across North Carolina to educate the children of our men and women in uniform. Maybe he'll finally tell us why thousands of North Carolina's veterans are on waiting lists to receive health care from the Veterans' Administration. Maybe he'll explain why he talks tough on homeland defense, yet refuses to adequately fund first responders -- the police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical providers upon whom we will rely in the event of future terrorist attacks. Maybe he'll tell us why, at a time when oil money funds so many terrorist activities, he has no plan to eliminate America's dependence on foreign oil, by working to build an economy based upon alternative, sustainable sources of energy.

"While we are unwavering in our support for our men in women in harm's way, their Commander-in-Chief's leadership is lacking.

"Yes, Mr. President. Welcome to North Carolina. North Carolinians are eager for honest answers."

26. Damn straight
I live in Raleigh and we saw a hard push here for the guy Governor Easly was backing which would have put the party in the hands of corporate Democrats (basically Republicans with a makeover). Thankfully the grassroots Dems fought even harder in getting Jerry - the man the people truly wanted - in office. :)

Especially, if he knows before hand that that's going to be the topic. He going to have to be surprised by that info.

5. Bush will be at Ft Bragg, NC tonight
giving a speech, where he won't say...

George W. Bush, 4/9/99:

“Victory means exit strategy, and it’s important for the president to explain to us what the exit strategy is.”

OR

George W. Bush, 6/5/99

“I think it’s also important for the president to lay out a timetable as to how long they will be involved and when they will be withdrawn.”

55. You know that's not true. We see him twice a year.
He goes to the Coca-Cola 600 and whatever the name of the fall race is this year.

A couple of years ago the track had a big PR thing: Put Governor Easley in a NASCAR Winston Cup race car and let him drive it around the track for two laps just before qualification. One of the big race shops got a superspeedway car out, put his name over the door, found a firesuit that would fit him, and sent him out. The expectation was that he'd go out there and drive around at 65mph waving to the fans. He ran fast enough to put the car in the show.

10. News 14 is planning on covering the Protests! So hope you can watch it
later. They did a nice job of talking with some of the protestors (Military Vets and Families of Soldiers serving) who were asking all the questions we here have about Iraq. It was pretty good...given that News 14 has not been a friend to those questioning "W." They said they would be doing more interviews and coverage of the protestors.

Walter Jones opened the door, I guess.

Dubya doesn't answer these questions. Because he's an unprincipled thug, that's why. Oh, and Jerry, I believe it's "While we are unwavering in our support for our men and women in harm's way...;" not in women, although I will admit the latter carries with it a certain fascination.

Edited for punctuation

of the Coca Cola Company, who first appeared on one of their advertisements in the 1930's, but has since been use to exploit and promote end of the year sales that also happen to correspond with the date that the Catholic Church selected a few hundred years ago to differentiate the celebration of the Birth of Jesus Christ, from the Pagan, Sun based celebration that it had become associated with.

Chairman Meek Responds to Bush Speech

Submitted by NCDP on Tue, 06/28/2005 - 8:54pm. Press Releases

"Tonight, members of the military, North Carolinians, Americans, Iraqis, and the world community were looking to President Bush for some honest answers and leadership. Instead, it was more of the same. While his wording and tone were different, Bush still repeats the same discounted rhetoric tying the war in Iraq to September 11 (which he mentioned five times) and stubbornly refuses to change strategy at all as our troops continue dying, public confidence erodes, and the situation looks like a decades-long occupation. Unfortunately, the President used Fort Bragg as a backdrop for more grandstanding and not as a way to level with the American people. Despite the President's lack of leadership, our support for our troops in harm's way remains as strong as ever."

52. In personal corresp w/ Meek: MTN DEMOCRATS
mountain-dems-bounces@dailydemocrat.org

join us! if you're in western NC.

Meek has been good to NC Dems. That being said, the NC Dem Party has not elevated the critical matter of VERIFIED VOTING (see web site for NC Verifiable Voting and join us there for good detail information re: what is taking place).

Mr. Meek and the NC Dem party has not stood up for paper ballots

Killing them with kindness is one thing. Getting your priorities straight is another.

Please encourage NC Dem party to get fully behind paper ballot voting.

Yesterday, Judicial I committee 'at the last minute' cancelled its meeting re: a great number of activist showing up at the state legislature as this committee was about to meet.

What was up? Well, Clodfelter, a state legislator, on 6.23.05, had REMOVED the clause associated with 'independent paper ballots.'

I called every person on Judicial I committee of the NC Senate.

So, WTF? Why this last minute cancellation?

A few too many concerned citizens for their taste?

more later. from asheville, nc
