You forgot Poland
Bush wants to make sure that none of us forget about Poland, so I am going to make sure everyone does remember Poland.

From the BBC: http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/war/wwtwo/invasion_poland_01.shtml

"Hitler was confident that the invasion of Poland would result in a short, victorious war for two important reasons. First, he was convinced that the deployment of the world's first armoured corps would swiftly defeat the Polish armed forces in a blitzkrieg offensive. Secondly, he judged the British and French prime-ministers, Neville Chamberlain and Edouard Daladier, to be weak, indecisive leaders who would opt for a peace settlement rather than war."

Now replace Hitler with Bush, Poland with Iraq, British with German, and Neville Chamberlain and Edouard Daladier with Gerard Schroeder and Jacque Chirac. Never forget about Poland.

1. By that rationale...
You're saying Germany and France should have invaded us for attacking Iraq?

2. They should have at least severed ties and placed
sanctions on us. It would have been too much to ask that they actually tried to help rid us of these fascist bastards...

3. Economic sanctions are a messy deal
Edited on Tue Jun-28-05 03:00 PM by Selatius
It only hurts civilians more than it hurts the dictators and the oligarchs. Just look at Cuba or Iraq in the 1990s.

Besides, it could backfire by stoking jingoistic nationalism in the US.

6. Yeah, like their hands are clean.
So I suppose arming parties actively involved in genocide isn't enough to warrant sanctions in your opinion?

5. Oh, I'm not saying you did!
Far from it. I'm just saying that's the logical conclusion one must arrive at. After all, the original text cites the complacency of France and Britain in the face of the Polish invasion. That obviously means that France and Britain should have declared war after the invasion of Poland (which, in fact, they did).

If we change everything to compare it to modern day and our own invasion of Iraq, it follows that Germany and France should have declared war on us.

I'm not saying they should, of course, and I don't think you meant that either. I'm just pointing it out because it shows that your comparison may not be exactly apropos.
