Anyone think this speech will backfire on Monkey Boy tonight?
Evidently, the whole thrust of this speech is for us to "be patient" and "stay the course". Well, we're all fed up here with patience. We were told that this ill-advised war was going to be a "cakewalk". We were told that "major combat operations" were over two freaking years ago. We were told that we would be greeted with "flowers" by the Iraqi people.

Almost 1,700 dead soldiers since then, and more and more dying every single day.

Is the Monkey King going to tell us what we want to hear tonight? 'Cause if he doesn't, he's in trouble.

1. I thought I read that every time he speaks his poll numbers drop
so I'd say yes, this will backfire.

5. Even if doesn't backfire
any benefit he gets will be short-lived. The time for talk is past; Bush's Iraq problems have to do with the facts on the ground, and unless that changes the polls will only get worse.

7. Bush speaks surrounded by young healthy troops
As he says 'stay the course' and invoke 9/11 ad nauseam the viewer may wonder which of those young soldiers will be killed in Iraq or Afghanistan. I know I will.

I know it's morbid.

12. I will be thinking the same thing
I will be scanning those faces and wondering who won't be seeing their families again. That's not morbid. My heart goes out to their loved ones who will miss them.

8. Maybe we'll see a coup
The troops will have no more of the lying sack of shit and will rise up to....

Well, I guess we'll have to tune to see what our boys in uniform will do to protect us from the prick.

It's going to be the same thing we've always heard before, only more so.

10. I don't think there's anything he can say that will work in his favor
He's tried everything he has already, and nothing he regurgitates tonight will help his situation (other than "I hereby resign the Presidency of the United States...").

15. We may be at a tipping point
At some point, Bush is going to go to far and the people will realize what an idiot he is.

16. The talking heads will praise it up, then deny they are praising.
His favorability ratings will go up a couple of points for about a week, then the downslide will continue. The talking heads will wonder how such a POPULAR president got in this mess, and deny once again that they were complicit in shoving this imbecile's agenda down our throats.

17. He'll get a two or three point bump in the polls
from the brain dead who don't pay much attention to anything and sway back and forth with the wind blowing.

In a couple of weeks, he'll be back in the toilet again.

18. I will be studying the reactions of the soldiers
That can sometimes give a good idea of what kind of support he has from the troops. I personally think there are more against than for. They're thinking about their lives and if they'll survive Iraq and Afghanistan.

19. No, his poll numbers will improve (for a short time)
Anytime a president gets surrounded by troops and they cheer approvingly in prime time, his poll numbers increase. The sheeple are too easy.

But, the love fest won't last long. The grim reality in Iraq will seep back into a few thick skulls. A speech by the idiot-and-thief can't change that.

21. IMHO
If he dresses in military garb that will turn off a lot of people.

two- If he talks about young folks signing up to support their nation, people will think of his two out of work daughters....

22. Two outcomes
1. This, like many of his speeches of the past, will backfire and everyone will see the Emperor for who he is or the other outcome of a few people saying "he really cares" and bumping his poll numbers a couple of points while he continues to slide.

2. (And this is the one I fear). Bush's cadre of talking heads will assault our airwaves blaming Democrats and liberals for the "lack of resolve" among the American people and even more chilling attempts to quell dissent will ripple throughout our workplaces, our picnics, our streets, and our government.

It could go either way, but I think these paranoid neo-cons are looking for a scapegoat. Let it not be us because we haven't had a say in anything concerning this stinking war. We are only along for the white-knuckle ride, bitching about our good name being dragged into the mud the entire way. Since when has anyone asked anything of liberals lately? Puh-lease.
