Hayes praises Guantanamo prison (He must have been in the wing decorated by Hilton)

Guantanamo Bay facility is humane, congressman says

MICHAEL GORDON

Staff Writer

Forget what the critics say about the Navy prison at Guantanamo Bay, U.S. Rep. Robin Hayes says.

This is what he saw:

Detainees treated with respect. Interrogations that were humane. Conditions so good that they would shock his 8th District constituents.

The Concord Republican said Monday he's convinced he witnessed actual prison conditions Saturday, not something whipped up by the Pentagon for him and other members of the House Armed Services Committee.

Rep. Hayes: Guantanamo is 'acceptable'

Associated Press

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Back from a one-day trip to Cuba, North Carolina U.S. Rep. Robin Hayes is among those saying conditions at Guantanamo Bay are more than acceptable.

The Naval base is housing suspected terrorists. Hayes was part of a delegation of House Armed Service Committee members who toured the prison on Sunday. He says his Eighth District cnstituents would probably be upset over how well the prisoners are treated.

He says the prisoners "are getting privileges that a prisoner of war under terms of the Geneva Convention would not get."

Also, Hayes says there's no need to shut down the prison as some have argued. He says there are people who are going to look for any target, but he says there couldn't be a better facility.

Representative G-K Butterfield said on Sunday that he believes many of the accusations of abuse of suspected terrorists are false.

9. The interrogations were a show for the visitors.
If he bought it, he's an idiot.

He's more likely a fraud.
