"I've decided not to watch it after all." <---bush voter about tonight
Edited on Tue Jun-28-05 06:01 PM by Bouncy Ball
The woman at my table in my class was saying this morning she was looking forward to seeing Chimpy McCokespoon's speech tonight. I asked her why and she said she hopes he explains what we're doing in Iraq.

!!!!!!!!

After last week, when we explained to her that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, she is bringing it up more and more often and does NOT seem happy about it. All this time, she thought good ol' Chimpy was just protectin' us 'Merkins from the terrarists! And uh, he wasn't. So she's a bit peeved, to say the least.

Then this afternoon, right before we left class she said "I've decided not to watch it after all."

I asked her why and she said "Well, I can't imagine that he'd say anything different than what he's already said in the past. And didn't you say I could just read the transcript later?"

I said yeah, I'll bring it in to you tomorrow morning, I'll print it off tonight and she said great, she'll just skim it.

My. She's a lifelong republican. For now. She's so soft, though, I'm thinking I could continue to drop little tidbits here and there and get her thinking even more. I'm off to print off a few good articles for her reading pleasure. LOL!

Even his (former?) supporters aren't bothering to watch his speech. Poor poor Chimpy McCokespoon. And she's inspired me. Why should I bother, either? Just to laugh at his latest malapropism? Eh. I'd rather watch a good movie.

I'm so excited about this woman. She asks questions of me and this other woman every day now.

1. She hopes we explain what we're doing in Iraq?

Good for you for trying.

2. Yeah, but it's exciting because it's rare to run across a bush voter

who is this open to hearing the truth. I suspect she votes republican just because her husband does and that's been their pattern for years and years (she's in her late 50s).

Her jaw drops and her eyes get big with everything we tell her and it's all factual, we back it up with links, quotes, articles, everything. I told the other girl let's not do too much at once, don't want to overwhelm her, so we're taking it a bit easy, but damn. She gets more and more pissed all the time!

She's going to be a Democrat by the time this class is over.

3. Tomorrow, you can ask her...
....if it seemed to her that he tried to equate 9/11 and Iraq. Use it as an example of how they're still telling the big lie. And how he gets his listeners to knit the two together without actually saying it himself. Duping them (and her).

Good luck! I'm following this and am so glad I didn't miss your post!

6. And showing that "unspoken linking" will be easier with a transcript.
It's alot clearer when it's on paper.

12. Yep!
In fact, I asked her if it was ok if I highlight some things to point out and she said go for it. So I've got my pink highlighter at the ready, LOL!

4. "If it was Clinton screwing up like this, I'd be calling for his head."
I've used lines like that with Rs when they see the light. It lets them know that it's the *actions* that are reprehensible, not *the man* (which plays against the *you just hate *" thinking).

She'll need to feel support on giving up on her hero, and more importantly, when she finally admits to herself that she knew it all along but supported * for whatever misguided reason.

13. I don't think he ever was her hero
I just think she thought he was protecting us. And she feels kind of duped right now, so yeah, that's why we're sort of going easy and trying to be gentle....

And I did say I would find this behavior reprehensible from ANY party, including my own. She totally agreed with that.

5. Why...
would anyone watch this tripe. He has done nothing but lie and avoid responsibility for his whole life. Does anyone think he will be any different now?

I would much rather listen to my dog panting while I walk him through the oak trees on a lovely summer evening and meditate on the end to hatred and ignorance. :)

8. Remember, she's JUST starting to open her eyes.
She has a long way to go, but at least she's opening them, listening and learning.

17. Kerry spoke earlier today on the Senate floor...
A preemptive rebuttal to Chimpy's Speech (Freepers heads are probably exploding because a Democrat dared to act preemtively).

9. Introduce her to DU!
All the info she needs is right here and it should be a real eye opener for her! On second thought, she might not be ready for that much reality yet.

14. LOL, yeah, I don't think she's QUITE ready.
Besides, she might post and say something that sounds freeperish and then be jumped all over, tombstoned, and totally confused over that.

Not yet. I'm giving her links to other things like Daily Kos, etc, but she's not ready for DU. LOL, that sounds funny, doesn't it?
