Bush Babbles--A Nation Sits Stunned--Pelosi kicks ASS!
Tonight, predictable as all get-out, the Bush-baby babbled his baby-blabble for a buncha people who were all too exhausted from the last wretched three or so years to applaud him at all... this silence was auspicious, weighty and suspicious... and, I might add, deeeelicious!
And then, on regular ol' NBC non-cable tv, Nancy Pelosi came on and showed incredible poise and command of her facts and info, and did this BYOOTEEFUL job of coming across as the most beautiful and hopeful icon of femininity as strong and smart since Jackie...
And she balanced it all at the end with a positive statement about how any opportunity to celebrate our brave people in the military was a good thing... then reminded Russert or whoever it was askin' the questions, they ALL look alike to me, that maintaining veterans' benefits here at home and outfitting your army with the latest equipment and having a real plan to win the peace and ultimately withdraw would be a much better way of "supporting the troops."
I love this woman; she absolutely inspires me...
What about you?

I mean, she's a breath of fresh air, and there's somethin' really hopeful about her... forget Hillary--she's a lovely person, but politically she's damaged goods, imho...
Pelosi, though... maybe America COULD go for a female candidate, I'm thinkin'--seriously thinkin'--for the first time in my life... seriously...
I dream of a day...

1. I watched Tweetie for a few minutes. He had 2 blond wives of soldiers
serving in Iraq on gung ho about everything. We must stay until it works. Now I mentioned blond because it's intersting the cute blondes were put on instead of say ANYONE ELSE. Just looked fixed to me.

2. So I guess THEIR husbands haven't been blown up yet...
Edited on Tue Jun-28-05 10:46 PM by dxstone
Yeah, it's all fixed... and the war drags on and on, and Butch and his buds sit around watching it on tv sayin' shit like, "Dang!--he blowed up REAL good!"
This damn comedy's just too dark for me...

BUT-- I'm mostly pointing out that we have good reason to hope in Nancy Pelosi, and more evidence that the tangled web is coming undone...
We have reason to be HOPEFUL... that's what I'm saying.
d
ps: It's all so simple, really... yet some people seem to accept war as inevitable...
My absolute favorite anti-war poem (it just says it all):

Us & Them

Us and them
And after all we're only ordinary men
Me and you
God only knows it's not what we would choose to do

Forward he cried from the rear
And the front rank died
Generals sat and the lines on the map
Moved from side to side

Black and blue
And who knows which is which and who is who?
Up and down
And in the end it's only round and round

Haven't you heard? It's a battle of words
And most of them are lies
Listen, son, said the man with the gun
There's room for you inside

Down and out
It can't be helped cuz there's a lot of it about
With--without
And who'll deny it's what the fighting's all about?

Out of the way, it's a busy day
I've got things on my mind
For want of a the price of tea and a slice
The old man died

Not familiar with the Zone, but otherwise...
Wish You Were Here: My FIRST choice for the ol' "What if you were stranded on a desert island and you could only have ONE dvd, and it can't be a double, either?" brain twister...
d
ps: Know what I can never leave the car if it's playin', I have to wait? Layla... that's just one of the best rock songs EVER; it's fargin' perfect...
'Course, I don't have it on tape or dvd, that's why I have to listen thru every time... which is kinda good, when you think about it...

10. "Gutsy dames"? What decade are you living in?
And that of course is responding to the least sexist bs in your post. Personally, the "gentlemen" I know wouldn't feel the need to remark on how fuckable he thinks a congresswoman is. Good grief.

Oh and why on earth would "pretty" be as important as "smart" for a congresswoman?

And in addition...
My exact words were:
"My hat's off to the gutsy dames!"

...in praise of Pelosi and others, such as Barbara Boxer and Stephanie Tubbs-Jones, who tend NOT to roll over and take it when the reeps start humping democracy, but to fight back, UNLIKE so many of their MALE counterpoints in the House and Senate...
Was I being sexist in saying this? Well then, shame on me...
Not really.
Even if you're RIGHT?... even if I'm a bit of an asshole?... I still think you're focused on the WRONG PROBLEM.
d
ps: So I take it you've formed a very DEFINITE opinion about me, someone you don't even know, in a matter of just a few seconds, and judged solely from a joke I made... but you have NO real opinion on Pelosi? Is THAT what you're saying?

Cuz, like I've been saying, I think she's really cool...

20. Didn't Read Him Say That Pretty Was As Important As Smart.
I happen to find them both positive attributes. What is so wrong with noting it? In your mind, does one negate the other?

Do you think Pelosi was offended the last time someone called he attractive?

I doubt it. I'm sure she took it as the compliment it was intended to be...

18. I'd like to suggest my friend and her boyfriend speak to Tweety.
Never happen though;

I just spoke to her and found out he hates Turdweasel and reports that there are alot of soldiers commiting suicide over there because conditions for them are so bad, the US hypocrisy so extreme.

He's in the Reserves and has been in Kuwait.

Don't think that's gonna get reported anytime soon.

Pelosi Statement on Bush Speech on Iraq
Washington, D.C. - House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement tonight in response to the President's speech on the war in Iraq, and his failure to provide the American people with strategy for success:

"The President missed an opportunity tonight for straight talk to the American people. He would have done more to honor the sacrifices of the brave men and women of the 'All-American' Division before whom he spoke had he given all Americans specifics about a strategy for success in Iraq.

"The President's frequent references to the terrorist attacks of September 11 show the weakness of his arguments. He is willing to exploit the sacred ground of 9/11, knowing that there is no connection between 9/11 and the war in Iraq.

"As the President noted, it is only one year after the return of sovereignty, but it has been 27 months since the President launched his pre-emptive strike. Iraq is now what it was not when the war began - a magnet for terrorism - because the President invaded Iraq with no idea of what it would take to secure the country after Baghdad fell. The insurgency took root in the unstable conditions that have now existed in substantial parts of Iraq for far too long.

"The American people understand what is at stake in Iraq and in the Middle East. That is why it is so disappointing that the President failed tonight, as he has failed consistently since the war began, to lay out specifics for success, including performance benchmarks.

"Regrettably, the President did not address key questions that must be answered: What will it take to train the Iraqi security forces to a level that will allow them to conduct combat operations without the assistance of our troops? How will reconstruction be done a priority so that electricity flows regularly, people are put to work, and Iraqis see a future in which they have a stake? When will diplomacy be employed effectively so that leaders in the region know that we recognize that their assistance is crucial to taking pressure off our troops and to fashioning an inclusive political process in Iraq?

"Our commitment in Iraq does not have to be measured by timetables, but neither can it be open-ended. The President must still do what he did not do tonight: lay out clearly the task that remains for the United States in Iraq and how it is to be accomplished."

14. Kick and Nomination (Well I Tried, Too Old) For The Fighters!!!
Edited on Thu Jun-30-05 07:17 AM by DistressedAmerican
Pelosi, Conyers, Boxer are the finest of the current crop. Without their voices, I'd be sure that there was noone in congress that represented my views!!!

Can't we get some combination of these three to run for the presidential nomination???

Exactly.
I'm thinkin' of reposting this one if I can find a link to her post-speech interview... it was on REGULAR (non-cable) NBC television, I think the interviewer was Tim Russert...
The link would definitely help a lot; no one will know what I'm talking about, how brilliant she was, if they can't see it...

27. No, we don't disagree...
But as I state in the original post, unfortunately, and I mean that very sincerely, Hillary has the same problem as her husband, she's damaged goods politically...
Which is a shame. I LOVED the Clintons. I KNOW they're not saints... but what a difference they made for a short time, and they weathered the storm of controversy with amazing grace and absolute coolth... I LOVE 'em.
The damage done was a concerted campaign to undermine all the good they were doing; it's not even their fault, not at all.
Just an unfortunate hard fact, and one I don't see us getting around anytime soon.

ps: Check out the video link posted above to see Ms. Pelosi's stunning display of skill, charm, etc! I see a VERY strong woman there.

28. No mater what it's 4 more years of U.S. Military in Iraq.
The majority of Dems will keep voting for the funds to keep the Occupation in place.Unless the Iraqis unite and demand that the Occupation end, it will continue. A question fo logic: If the super power Amerika with it's allies in Iraq cannot quel the Insurgency how are the Iraqis who are being trained supposed to do so?

Tweety is a schizoid, Bush Regime ass licker.

a stronger presence in the House. For a while I wondered when she would use her voice in an effective way but it seems that she has become more energized.

I disagree with your comment about Hillary. In no way is she damaged goods, as you put it. She never would have been elected Senator from New York if she had been. She is controversial with some people I suppose and there are strong feelings for and against her, hardly ever neutral, but she has gone through a lot and has withstood much negative press and hostility from Republicans.

Hillary has been battered and bruised and is still standing but it remains to be seen if she will actually run in 2008. First, she has to win her Senate seat back.

Nancy P. is only a Congressperson and rarely do members of the House win primaries. She's doing good right where she's at.
