Newsday: "Sagging polls prompt Bush to again invoke 9/11"
FORT BRAGG, N.C. - In the past, when sagging polls have put President George W. Bush in trouble, he has invoked the event that shaped his presidency to confront critics and rally public support, the Sept. 11 attacks.

He did it again last night, wrapping the Iraq war in the mantle of 9/11 to reject calls for an exit timetable and appeal for patience from an increasingly skeptical public. Never forget "the lessons of September the 11th," Bush warned, or risk handing victory in Iraq to the likes of Osama bin Laden....

Independent pollster John Zogby said the speech didn't give viewers hungry for news on how the president hopes to get out of Iraq much new to consider. "I think the president was giving them same old, same old," Zogby said.

But Rep. Peter King (R-Seaford) defended Bush's use of the attacks, saying the war in Iraq is important both for stabilizing the Middle East and for defeating the Islamic militants who attacked that day.

"We would not have invaded Iraq without 9/11," King said after the speech. "I think it's important for the president to remind people of 9/11 especially for people further away from New York and further away from the Pentagon. Americans do tend to put 9/11 in the backs of their minds."

13. link to other blog that talked about the PNAC
Did I read it right-Bin Laden was a CIA operative?

I have long thought that Bush and his buddies planned 9/11.Maybe it was the way he sat there and continued reading "my pet goat".He looked the same way a woman who has had her rich husband killed looks when the police come to her house and inform her of his death.

Go on my blog if you want to talk about politics, evolution and if there is a biological reason people are gay,or any other topic.

:yoiks: I could swear I heard the Bush pushers say before the first election that Bush was planning to go in to Iraq and "finish the job his father left there".But before 9/11.

3. "We would not have invaded Iraq without 9/11," as PNAC said, they needed
"another Pearl Harbor" for cover to invade & occupy and conquer Iraq.

They got 911.

They used it for cover to invade and occupy and fail to conquer Iraq.

8. watch out for this headline....
"Sagging polls prompt Bush to declare a terror alert"

4th of july weekend coming up, his numbers are in the toilet, speech was a cut/paste job that went over like a lead balloon...

invoking September 11 (6 times) didn't help - so the only thing left is to declare a terror alert and scare the sh*t out of people

meanwhile - rough word count of top 2 "words/phrases"

free/freedom/liberty = 29
terror/terrorists/insurgents = 35

12. " especially for people further away from New York...."
Funny that he said that people further away from New York need to be reminded of 9/11 to get on board with Iraq, because Bush has been tanking in the areas hit during 9/11 far longer than he has anywhere else.

15. The most outrageous thing in the speech was
Shrub saying the terrorists in Iraq are the same ones responsible for 9/11. Shame he forgot to mention how they WEREN'T in Iraq before we invaded.
