1. Yep.
This was announced yesterday. Perhaps the mission wasn't accomplished in Afghanistan, either. I think that the war in that area is going to heat up soon.

17. It's been slowly heating back up...
UK will be sending 5,000 troops over there in the next few weeks to help control things....

http://www.isn.ethz.ch/news/sw/details.cfm?ID=11481

ISN SECURITY WATCH (14/06/05) - The British government will send as many as 5,000 additional troops to war-torn Afghanistan, news agencies reported on Monday.

The deployment would significantly increase Britain’s military presence in Afghanistan, where some 900 British troops currently serve as part of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).

The British government’s decision was reportedly made during last week’s NATO meeting in Brussels.

The troop increase is aimed at helping the US-led forces stabilize Afghanistan, which has seen a recent increase in attacks on civilians and foreign troops in the ongoing war against remnants of the Taliban and al-Qaida.

12. "Bring it on!", he said. They seem to be complying with his wish.
The whipped Taliban, the remnants of al-Queda, the "failed" insurgency, just a long string of glorious victories.

Future historians will be rolling their eyes at the incredible stupidity of the American government and people who bought this.

13. Nope. Can't Be
Afghanistan is completely changed place now. Part of the modern world. No bad guys. No heroin traffic. No crimes. Nothing.

That's why we were able to go to Iraq. Nothing left to do after the rousing succes in Afghanistan.

I know this for sure, because Silverspoon said so.

14. Was That One Of Our Stingers That Did The Job?
Be assured none of our bright military genius' in the Pentagon ever bothered to study the Afghan-Soviet war. Also that arms bazaar that operated across the Afghan-Pakistan border in the Peshwar area is busier than ever.

The Taliban even called the AP to confirm the shoot down yesterday. They didn't go away...we just pretended they were gone.

23. This Is Our Cambodia
This is the ignored war...the one that we're losing but isn't reported. It's the one that's more brutal as we've stepped into centuries of tribal and sectarian rivalries and fighting. We're totally clueless to the cultures in yet another country created on a drawing table in 18th Century Europe.

18. According to CBC the Taliban was saying this yesterday
They even claim to have video. The Taliban just did what any smart army would do when faced with overwhelming force, they hid and waited for opportunities. They now control overtly or covertly most of the countryside (outside Kabul).

back when he had a chance in Tora Bora.

He then obliges Chimpy by assuring him that we could invade Iraq "No problem, Sir". We then concentrate our efforts on another front with bogus evidence on WMD.

That's why the Taliban is still around.

20. If the troops on the chopper survived...
will the bush cabal insist that they be treated per the 'quaint' Geneva Conventions? Will they insist the International Red Cross and other groups have access to the prisoners?

Sadly, by the bush cabal's own actions, they have lost the right to demand anything with regard to the treatment of those captured. I can only hope if there are captured survivors, they will be treated better than Afghan prisoners have been treated by the US.
