More troops have died already in Afghanistan this year than last year
Edited on Wed Jun-29-05 11:57 AM by Bleachers7
Here is the breakdown. With the 17 dead in the copter crash, that's 55 dead so far this year. We're already past the highest yearly total and we're only in June.

Period Total

  • 2005 55
  • 2004 52
  • 2003 47
  • 2002 43
  • 2001 12

  • Total 219

    1. That's why they asked general whatshisname about...
strength of insurgency now compared to 6 months ago, instead of the usual year.
I am so outta here.

    2. Asking about the insurgency six months ago is a pointless
question: historically, and to the present, fighting pretty much slows to a halt during the winter in Afghanistan.

    3. Thanks for the breakdown.
That's a trendline that gets overshadowed, but the trend is dismal, especially when considering there are many fewer US troops in Afghanistan than in Iraq, and fewer now than there were in 2001.

    4. I think it also shows what could have been done with 150,000 troops
    in Afghanistan.
