More troops have died already in Afghanistan this year than last year |

Here is the breakdown. With the 17 dead in the copter crash, that's 55 dead so far this year. We're already past the highest yearly total and we're only in June.

question: historically, and to the present, fighting pretty much slows to a halt during the winter in Afghanistan.

That's a trendline that gets overshadowed, but the trend is dismal, especially when considering there are many fewer US troops in Afghanistan than in Iraq, and fewer now than there were in 2001.
