Do any other DUer's Get Weird E-Mail
For a few months now I get email messages from senders I do not know. When I click on the email subject there is no message. Just 5 minutes ago I opened email that said they were "response to post #10." So I clicked on it thinking maybe it was from DU and it was the same, no message. Also I couldn't log in today and had to go to a different user on my computer in order to be able to.

Are they after me?

I've noticed a huge increase in unfriendly email, that are hard to dechiper from the user/subject. I screen every email that comes into my system. There are pop mail monitors out there (I use an old, but handy, piece of freeware called "Magic Mail Monitor" ) that shows you the entire email, including the header and the contets of any attachments, or if there is malicious code within. You should never download email onto you machine (especially if you use MS Outlook) if you don't know what's in it, IMHO.

also, if you were unable to login with your regular user, you should remove that user immediately. Hopefully it wasn't your administrator.

2. dunno, but I sure don't want all that BUSHCHENEY04 email
that is coming my way. How the hell did they get MY email? Only good think about AOL is that I can instantly report it as spam with a single touch of a button. 'Of course, AOl is probably sending the damned shit.

Oh, yeah Marc Raciciot, I'm surely going to make a big donation to YOUR boy.....

8. Here's what you do.
I got the same email, and is both spam and a scam, so ISP's tend to hate this stuff and deal harshly with them.

First, find out where it really came from, and you have to see all the headers to do that. In Eudora, there's a "blah, blah, blah" button, but other email programs have their own way.

Then, you poke the IP address, in this case 24.103.101.179, into the search box at http://www.iks-jena.de/cgi-bin/whois to make sure who it is. The results, which will be in english, will probably give an email address for complaints.

Then, you forward the entire email to "abuse," or whatever at that host.

I sent this to abuse@rogers.com:

(I left out the body here, and eliminated some personal information)

--------------------------
I received this email, which appears to have come through your servers.

It's a common scam, which by now I'm sure you are familiar with, and I trust you will take the appropriate measures.

Thank you.
