A cross county bicycle trip to protest the 'war'
and heighten awareness of alternative methods of transportation.
My friend, whom you will read about in this short press release is going to bike across the nation.
When hearing about this, I told him the spirit of activism lives at DU and maybe some of you would want to join him, if his route comes near you. Maybe some of you would want to help publicize this in your part of the country. Maybe you would want to offer him something to eat. But here is a chance to be part of something we all agree on. Ending the 'war'.Here's the press release and the route Ron will take.

Everett, Washington to Washington, DC!

Northwest peace activist and cycling enthusiast Ron Toppi will ride across the USA this summer in a grassroots protest against war and U.S. occupation of other countries, and to promote efficient use of renewable energy sources. Please use this opportunity to augment your own organizing efforts.

A whole lot of us will join Ron for some portion of his ride, bringing greater attention to our wing of the peace movement. Feeder rides will converge along the way. Perhaps other cyclists will commit to alternate routes from the west coast to converge in Washington, DC, on 21-Sept-05.

Together we can create a critical mass in the streets of our capitol.
Even if you can't organize or join hundreds of other cyclists, there are more opportunities. Cyclists will need shelter, meals, and a place to wash their socks. Local supporters can celebrate peaceful networking nationwide and invite the media to tell the story. You can study the tentative itinerary below and forward this message to all your peace loving friends.

2. Wow.
That's a lot of miles! I have a friend who rode across the U.S. a couple of years ago with a small group. She had a good time, but said there were days when the group was really sick of each other! She also lost a lot of weight because she just could not eat enough.

I'm not up to that kind of daily mileage myself, but kudos to Ron and the others! I hope they have a great trip.

3. My son and a friend biked from Gainesville, FL to
Washington state. Quite a trip. Not uneventful and not always safe at all. He picked his route by plopping a ruler down on the map and picking the secondary (not interstate) routes that took him from Point A to Point B. Met some great people, had some close calls with NOT so great people, mostly in the South but I'm thinking Nebraska too.

4. A simple way to protest the war
Sopport peace activist Ron Toppi while he bikes across the country. Can't DU throw me a bone? I don't see where there are many things like this being done in the country. It's typically this kind of effort that provokes thought and may lead to change. He might come by where you live. Turn out to say hello........Thanks to all of you! :toast:
