55. Don't forget though:
These people are masters of propaganda. UIf we're seeing things here, reading things into it, we're catching them in their work. Notice: the flags in the backdrop are simply wrong to begin with. Not enough stripes, stretched starfield.

Remember the podium at the RNC. "Mission Accomplished." The carrier landing. The famous "halo" photos of *. And on. And on.

I think we're seeing things we're supposed to see. And it's damn unsettling.

17. I think it's intended.
But I wonder if it backfired . . .

I've seen a lot of complaints since about his overuse of the words, "911"--people really picked up on it--he used it 5 or 6 times.

He supposedly used the word "terrorists" or a variant thereof something like 35 times, and I haven't heard any complaints about it. Granted, it's less objectionable in itself--but I'm wondering if people felt more bludgeoned by "911" because the visual sensitized them to it.

27. If the flag were hanging naturally, the blue would be at bottom LH corner.
or it would properly be in the upper RH corner. This is a deliberate manipulative use of the flag. Isn't that desecration?

I agree the flags look like the twin towers. What I want to know is: Were there actually only 11 stars above his head, or is the photo just cropped? If there were 11 stars, then you have 9 stripes and 11 stars.

Probably sending the code that says:

36. Just too strange..
When it comes to media events, Rove leaves nothing to chance... so we have to assume there was a deliberate and careful purpose to the entire set design. Even the tacking of the blue/stars to lift the bottom of the blue area so it curves further suggesting the 9 is meaningful.

Incredible.

And what is that smilie face looking thing, anyway?

41. There aren't enough stripes on those flags!
Damn! Good catch!

Here's what it should really look like.

And don't let BushCo tell you "There wasn't enough room to show the flags."

Flag Etiquette dictates:

8. When the flag is displayed in a manner other than by being flown from a staff, it should be displayed flat, whether indoors or out. When displayed either horizontally or vertically against a wall, the union should be uppermost and to the flag's own right, that is, to the observer's left. When displayed in a window it should be displayed in the same way, that is with the union or blue field to the left of the observer in the street. When festoons, rosettes or drapings are desired, bunting of blue, white and red should be used, but never the flag.

43. That's pretty wild BTW why are the Flags projections, not real?
Not sure if it's deliberate (although I would'nt put it past any politician to use subliminal tricks, especially these BushCo control freaks) but after looking with folks trying to guide folks how to see it I can see 911 and the Towers with a bit of a stretch. What struck me right away was the odd striping of the flag, the weird "smiles" and they didn't look solid.

I showed the pic to DH without telling him anything, just showing him the pic and asking him what was wrong with the pic. He said he thinks they're projections... exactly the same like they're copy and pasted. Look at the shadows, folds, etc. and the only diff is where it looks like there's possibly a security screen in front of Bush. He also saw 911 symbolized much faster then I did (of course I'm admittedly not quite awake yet, he is).

This pic is from a news source originally right? So does anyone know if this a projection behind Bush? If so, why would they use a projection and not real flags? Why use a flag with the incorrect amount of stripes? Is the bunching up of the field of blue deliberate or an accident copy and pasted? and finally what on earth are those freaky smiley faces if one is up close and clear?

53. Yes, the best reason why the subliminal messaging theory has merit.
The repeated graphic of a 9 stripe flag can not be accidental in light of the recent focus on flag desecration laws.

I agree with TahitiNut's post on another thread. It's the way a flag looks draped over a coffin. I hope that was the subliminal message the "war president's" administration intended.

50. Remember the RATS incident

http://www.bushwatch.com/rats.htm

"At first glance, the Republican television commercial on prescription drugs looks like a run-of-the-mill attack advertisement. The announcer starts by lauding George W. Bush's proposal for dealing with prescription drugs, and criticizes the plan being offered by Vice President Al Gore. Fragments of the phrase "bureaucrats decide" — deriding Mr. Gore's proposal — then dance around the screen. Then, if the viewer watches very closely, something else happens. The word "rats," a fragment of the word "bureaucrats," pops up in one frame. And though the image lasts only one-thirtieth of a second, it is in huge white capital letters, larger than any other word on the commercial. The advertisement then declares, "The Gore prescription plan: bureaucrats decide."...

"Almost every advertising professional interviewed said that given the technology by which commercials are assembled frame by frame, it was virtually impossible for a producer not to know the word was there. "There is no way that anything Alex Castellanos does is an accident," said Greg Stevens, a veteran Republican admaker here. Bobby Baker, chief of the office of political programming at the Federal Communications Commission, said that if the word had been deliberately inserted in the commercial that would be "an extraordinary development" and reflect "reckless" behavior. While he said the commission did not prohibit subliminal advertising, Mr. Baker explained that "we have policy statements and public notices that indicate they are inherently intended to be deceptive and might be contrary to the public interest."" 70. Google "bush halo" in either reg. Google or Google Images
You'll se a lot of people who had "Fun with Photoshop," but those were based on REAL choreographed photos. There's quite a few if you're diligent.

65. Good catch. Remember the cross on the podium at the GOP convention?
I'm convinced that the right wing is very much into "creative" stagecraft.

68. totally relevant
i took a senior seminar in humanities that examined set and setting cultural messages and i'll be damned -- people really do get paid to design this stuff with this shit in mind. it's not being all tinfoil or anything. it's simply what you do when you craft messaging.

73. The flag is a livng thing
Don't know how many of you have ever noticed it down at the end of the flag code (see the link posted by I Have a Dream), but there is this concept which I find more than a little creepy:

"The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing."

75. It is creepy that anyone would elevate a symbol above

77. "just like corporations" is the key here -- that was the vibe i picked up
on initially. and it's definitley the modus operandi. not surprising if you are selling tacos -- really creepy for the president addressing the troops.
