I made Newsday re: Peter King again.
Fightin' words from King
Rep. Peter King takes gloves off in replies to angry voters

WASHINGTON -- A lifelong boxing fan who himself trains in the ring twice a week, Rep. Peter King is not one to run away when it comes to confrontation -- even when it comes in the form of a letter from a constituent.

"I understand that you recently contacted my office requesting that I vote to censure President Bush," King, a Republican from Seaford, recently wrote Bellmore resident Harry Halikias. "I disagree with you in every respect. You are morally, intellectually and politically wrong. President Bush is an outstanding leader of outstanding integrity. Like Ed Koch, I thank God every night that he is our president. You should do the same."

Halikias, 28, a computer systems analyst, was taken aback by King's missive, which he said was an unwarranted response to his initial letter.

"I was somewhere between shocked and disappointed that someone elected to represent us would use that kind of language," said Halikias, a Democrat who says he may have once voted for King. "I think he took it personally when he didn't have to. I didn't question his morality or intellect."

I questioned our great leader and this is the response. Oh and check this out about the other person that received his hate mail.

"I would say she should take a tranquilizer," King said with a chuckle.

2. King got his NYC former mayors confused
It's Giulliani who ran out of a burning building on 9/11 screaming to Bernie Kerik "thank God George Bush is our president"

7. No, Ed Koch (DINO--NYC) was saying that too...
...especially as part of the welcome wagon for the Rethug convention in 2004.

3. Wow. Isn't it nice to know your elected leader thinks you're immoral?
What an asshat!

4. Peter is on the hot seat.
Otherwise there is no reason for him to react so aggressively. The article also errs in assuming that a citizen writing a letter which expresses an opinion is somehow a confrontation that compares with a boxing match. As a citizen who writes letters to elected officials, and as a retired boxer, I find Peter's response weak, and the article unfortunate .... but I surely admire the citizen who wrote to Peter!

5. King actually said.....
"I think they should be honored they have a congressman who actually listens to them -- even if they are not making sense," King said. "I respond to them and they run crying to the newspapers. It's just like the kid who's a wise punk, then when someone takes a shot at them they go running to the teacher."

THATS a big part of the problem. We should be honored that we're listened to? IMHO, we should vote out every member of the House and Senate, with the exception of Boxer and the Congressional Black Caucus, and let them know that they work for and are accountable to us, not K street. Course, King was the drunken fool that slurred his admission that they have the vote counting taken care of....but IF our ballots are counted, they should count for that.

8. King is an asshole
Edited on Thu Jun-30-05 09:30 AM by Danmel
The only good thing he ever did was oppose Clinton's impeachment. He is really far right for Long Island too. He represents the district over from me- my Congressman is Steve Israel who is a DINO but not as whacked out as King (He did vote for the bankruptcy bill, something I will never forgive him for and he never ever sticks his neck out on anything).

Pretty appalling that your Congressman would send you a response like that- I wonder if anyone will challenge him in 06. I think Suozzi might want to take him on instead of challenging Spitzer for Governor, but Suzi is a very pretty boy and I guess he doesn't want to one of 435.

God, I wish these people weren't so fucked up.
