Ultra-orthodox protester STABS two gay pride marchers
JERUSALEM, June 30 (Reuters) - An ultra-Orthodox Jewish protester stabbed two marchers in a gay pride parade through Jerusalem on Thursday as police pushed back demonstrators trying to stop the march, a police spokesman said.

Authorities in the city that is holy to Muslims, Christians and Jews had tried to ban the parade for fear it could provoke violence, but they were overruled by Israel's High Court.

Jerusalem police spokesman Shmuel Ben-Ruby said the man suspected of the stabbing had been arrested along with nine other protesters. The wounded marchers were treated by medics at the scene.

Thousands took part in the parade, dancing and waving through the centre of the city.

4. Bingo.
Whatever happened to telling people to be kind to one another and work together to make a better society?

2. I doubt the ban was really for fear it could provoke violence.
But that's quibbling.

5. Well, you have to admit that they'd be worried.
After all, violence is such a rare and unusual thing over there, no one would know how to deal with it.
