ABC Won't Run UCC Ad-Will Run Focus on Family Ad?

ABC's "Long-Standing," but Changing Policy

Contributed by Robert Chase

Tuesday, 10 May 2005
When ABC ran the ad for "Focus on the Family" last Monday (5/2) after they denied the running of our ad last year they claimed that the reason was that "the network doesn't take advertising from religious groups. It's a long-standing policy." They implied from that statement that Focus on Family is not a religious group.

The claim that they are not a religious group did not hold and was ripped apart by bloggers such as John Aravois, Fredrick Clarkson and Chuck Currie.

Rather than admit their mistake, they just changed their "long-standing" policy. Saturday's NYT reported that ABC accepts advertising from religious groups "as long as the commercials do not proselytize."

This is not the first time ABC has changed this policy to prevent our message of inclusiveness from airing. Last February, ABC's rejection of our ad said:

Can anyone say 'hypocrisy'? :eyes:

PS-I just learned of this.

1. How is Focus on the Freakshow
not proselytizing?

In what way was the UCC ad doing so? Saying its membership was open to everyone? Effed up is what it is.

2. In reality, I think ABC is afraid of the mobilizing
forces of groups like FOTF. Remember the so-called "Satanic" little moon-and-stars logo on Proctor Gamblel products that had to be removed?

So, ABC is scared of pissing off these rabid RWers, and not so much of doing so to liberally minded religious people.

Disgusting.

4. PS-Of course FOTF is a religous group.
Religious loons, but religious nonetheless.

5. yet ANOTHER reason to boycott ABC/Disney...
Last December, when Disney-ABC ran that vile and villifying 20/20 piece smearing Matthew Shepard's character and demeaning the legacy of his brutal murder, my partner and I vowed to never again patronize this wretched media monopoly. Never watch ABC or any of the Disney channels. Never pay to see or buy a Disney movie, or patronize a Disney theme park. We can now add this glaring example of religious right bias to our growing list of reasons to boycott ABC-Disney:

1) 20/20 piece on Matthew Shepard
2) The Saudi royal family own a major share of Disney (an investment said to have been brokered by none other than Poppy Bush, through his Carlyle Group.)
3) Board of Director member, Alwin Lewis, also sits on Halliburton's BODs
4) Board of Director member, John Bryson, also sits on corrupt Boeing board and he was part of the machine that swindled billions of $$ from Californians during the Enron energy scam (and was also on the board of the Council on Foreign Relations, a neocon org, and was formerly with H.F Ahmanson's board, as in the same Ahmanson who is a "christian reconstructionist (read, extremist) and who funded the start ups Diebold and ES&S)

and NOW...

5) Clear and unapologetic bias toward RR propaganda and their hate-spewing groups (FOTF)

Disney has been scum for a long time now. Carl Hiaasen is a Florida writer who had The Mouse's number for quite a while.

I recommend his "Team Rodent: How Disney Devours the World"

Here is a review of it from Amazon:

Amazon.com
Let's get one thing straight: Carl Hiaasen doesn't like the Walt Disney Company. Whenever the giant entertainment conglomerate stumbles, as it did with its proposed Civil War theme park in Virginia, Hiaasen cheers...

A native of Florida...Hiaasen comes by his dislike for Disney honestly. He has witnessed the relentless success of the Disney machine firsthand with the development of Disney World and other properties around Orlando. In Team Rodent: How Disney Devours the World, Hiaasen paints a witty and sarcastic portrait in this nonfiction account of a company who can control the press, manipulate local governments, and because it's Disney, get away with it. Team Rodent is a quick, entertaining read that even the most loyal Disney shareholder (except maybe Michael Eisner) will find enlightening and amusing. --Harry C. Edwards

For more horror, read about the Town of Celebration. Scary. I know WDW does have so-called gay days, etc., but they are still disgusting.

8. Thanks in return. Disney's "Gay Days" can never make up for...
what they did to Matt Shepard. Unforgivable.

A company must manifest justice in all aspects of its business, not just throw out token tidbits to rake in all the money from all segments of society.

That means no sexism, genderism, racism, ageism, or any other ism.

When I was a little kid, going to WDW was the same as going to heaven. As I got older and went out in the world and shaped my burgenoneing liberal conscience, I saw just how rotten many companies like WDW were and are.
