When did SW Florida turn Republican
I've always wanted to know. According to the US Election, in the 1960 election, Nixon won there.

2. It's always been Republican
After WWII Naples & Fort Myers have traditionally been retirement areas for wealthy whites.

6. So then
Did a massive influx of Republicans come in between 1948 and 1952?

4. Ugh
I'm not sure if I know what you're saying, but I don't know much about the 1960 election except that there was some controversy about Mayor Daley pulling a Jeb Bush to get Kennedy votes in Chicago. I don't know if it's true or anything, I just remember it being mentioned during the Florida 2000 media thing.

As for today's Florida. I predict a Republican vote. Neither Clark nor Dean is pro-Israeli enough to raise funds with the Jewish community of south Florida which basically controls Florida politics.

9. A quick perusal of GD from the date of your initial inquiry
would save your fellow DUers from doing your research for you as well as eliminate tying up the GD forum with duplicate requests and allow for other topics of importance to be discussed.

A lot of crap, indeed. Way to go, Conservative Floridians. Conserve on regulations and sewage and water treatment plants (those cost tax dollars, y'know, so they must be a waste of money) and let the bullshit flow (literally) in the drinking water. Woohoo!

Think there might be a correlation between "Republican Conservatives" and people who aren't smart enough to realize that it's a bad idea to put shit in your drinking water?

on edit: I'm mostly kidding about the connection between drinking polluted water and voting Republican, I think...

7. They just didn't understand
that less guns and more taxes was better for them. With enough taxes paid they could afford to have 911 service come in the blink of an eye and save them from those trying to rape, mug or assualt them.

Given enough funds every citizen could have a cop within three seconds away to save them from those that would do them harm.
