OK, so B*sh's poll numbers are falling, he's taking heat on the |

Hill over the 87 billion, the UN speech was a flop, and the upcoming report by the WMD search teams says they haven't found anything.
How much you wanna bet that: a) We see the terror alert level raised or a specific warning made in the next week or so (the old "divert attention and make the citizens afraid so they'll cuddle up to their protector,George" ploy), and b) Syria all of a sudden becomes part of the "axis of evil" and something has to be done about it (note the recent arrests of US soldiers, suspected of spying for Syria.... and besides, Saddam must have given his WMDs to Syria, thats why we couldn't find them!)

1. Yes - it sure looks that way. |

Congress is getting a mite testy too about funding this disaster in Iraq.
If he raises the terror alert level to red he could probably circumvent Congress for anything he wants to do!
Would he go that far? I don't know, but an animal is most dangerous when it's backed in a corner and injured.
Welcome to DU, by the way. :hi:

2. He's cried "wolf" once too often. |

Those old tactics would just backfire on him now. The last time we had an "orange" alert, it was ignored for the most part. Karl Rove may be a genius, but his political maneuvers are short-sighted; most of them are losers in the long run.

5. I'm starting to think he's not so much a genius as simply ruthless. |

But I think that has taken them as far as it can.
Eventually, people want to see results. And I'm not just talking Osama's head on a stick. I mean jobs, some salvaging of our international reputation, and other things that Bush and Co. are simply incapable of doing.

3. Wasn't Syria a model citizen a couple months ago? |
|
Didn't they close their borders and do everything else asked of them during the war? Apparently we're running short of serious enemies and need another.
