Tim Russert predicts a repeat of the 2000 election debacle. . .WTF?
Russert told Couric that the polls showing a 50/50 approval split for Bush foretell of another presidential election hinging on Florida.

First of all, how can he even begin to make such a prediction more than a year beforehand? Secondly, the way I see the polls, Bush's ratings are less than 50/50 when you account for the other issues such as people not approving of Iraq or the economy.

A repeat of 2000? I think that would be a best-case scenario for Bush at this point.

that the media will never let it be a blowout, we'll keep seeing pictures of Bush as sainted leader and whoever the Dem nominee is will have every youthful indiscretion aired for everyone to see. and then ChimpCo will steal it anyway.

3. This is exactly what Rove wants
The California Recall is he new product for fall roll out and it is a set up for 2004.

By 2004, elections in this country will be such a farce that most people won't even bother to vote and even if they do it won't make a difference and he betting that they won't even care.

Folks, he's skunked us again.

OK, people, let's grow a set. This defeatist attitude is really what Rove wants. Let Russert and the rest of the ass-sniffers spin away. The reality still remains Iraq is a deadly and costly disaster, the US has no friends left, the economy is tanking, the government bankrupt, the terrorists still loose and the only beneficiaries of this administration are its fat-cat cronies. And more and more people know it every day and it will get harder and harder to spin away. Russert spouts the mendacious nonsense he does because that is what he is paid to do. If we sit here and wring our hands about how we are doomed to more of *, then that's exactly what will happen. Nobody says it will be easy, but we have to believe we can prevail or we just might as well shoot ourselves. COURAGE, DAMN IT!

Here's another example of rampant literalism. Of course, I fully intended to demean women. how about a bit more creative reading and generosity of spirit and a bit less judgementality? But, if that is done, there's no opportunity for feeling smugly superior, is there?

11. Bu$h Inc. and its fat- cat cronies are the Terrorists. If Russert and
his ilk were not just whores for said fat-cat cronies then the American people would already know that they are the real terrorist as I do. 9-11 was Bu$h`s gift from his CIA trained Saudi Arabian buddies. That is why any meaningful investigation is being blocked by the court appointed killer squatting in Al Gore`s White House.

24. Eloriel is 100 percent correct.
We could run Jesus Christ against bush and the Diebold GEMS counting program would say "It was a very close race, but bush picked up just a few more votes at the end there and won." They would say this right after Microsoft Access went in the back way and changed the vote totals. After all, they have the money. They have the best programmers that money can buy. Wireless transmission makes it harder for our side. Please people, let's do all we can to save our country. I want there to be something left for my granddaughter. She is 3.

19. It may be "defeatist" to look at a possible win
and think "oh, we will lose!" But it isn't defeatist to look at an easily predictable crime and say, "They will rob us blind!" The real question is what are we going to do if and when they do rob us blind? Everyone here skirts around the obvious choice that is before us, if they "crime of the century" is perpetrated on us: acquiesce or fight.

Courage will be needed if the Emperor steals his second election - there won't be any "next time we'll win" bullshit. Then we will see what we all are really made of.

13. He was commenting on the independent voters 46-44% pro/con opinion
85% (yes 85%) of Republican approve of the job W is doing
76% of Dems disapprove

and the independents are almost split 46-44%

He of course had to compare it to CLINTON's numbers and St.Ronnie at this point of the "race". He failed (gasp) to mention how everything has been totally screwed up and that W's numbers are dropping like a rock.

17. Mr. Russert....
there will be a repeat if we do not count all the votes and keep a large portion of the African Community off the voter rolls. If the media and your company would uncover the FRAUD that Bush and his people committed during the 2000 election I would feel more confident that we would have fair elections in 2004.

Hey, Tim, the election is in November 2004, not in a month or two you moran. Bush*'s approval ratings are in free fall, they were at 60 or 70 a few months a go. Its not like they are going to hit 50% and stay there for the next 14 months.

the so called "liberal" media really did its homeowrk and investigated the lies of the Bush White House and the pResident's past (Desserter, perjury, insider trading, etc...)? The guy is getting a free ride from the media basically and his numbers are falling. On the other hand, the media bashed the Clintons for eight years, non-stop, and the Big Dog always had good numbers!

26. The Daily Howler had a really interesting quote about why
the trashing of Al Gore by the press happened.

TRASHING THE BUSH-BASHERS (PART 1)!
http://dailyhowler.com/dh092403.shtml

WHY IT HAPPENED: You’re going to think that we’re making this up. But on Thursday, September 21, 2000, Howard Fineman explained why the press had turned on Gore in the lullaby/doggy-pill lunacy.

On that evening, Fineman appeared with Brian Williams on The News. Gore was still ahead in that day’s tracking polls, but it was clear that his fortunes had turned. Gore had experienced “his worst week in a month and a half,” Claire Shipman reported that night on the NBC Nightly News.

<snip>

Why had “the media pendulum” swung? Why was the press corps again trashing Gore? In response to Williams’ questions, Fineman made one of the most remarkable statements of the 2000 campaign:

FINEMAN (9/21/00): I don’t think the media was going to allow, just by its nature, the next seven weeks, the last seven or eight weeks of the campaign, to be all about Al Gore’s relentless, triumphant march to the presidency. We want a race, I suppose. If we have a bias of any kind, it’s that we like to see a contest and we like to see it down to the end if we can.

<snip>

According to Fineman, that’s what this “lullaby” flap was about. And that’s why all the fake, phony pundits suppressed what they found under “Gore AND union label” when they checked it out on Nexis. Readers, do you see why we speak of the press as we do? And do you see why we, as American citizens, have to take aggressive action against these rank thieves of our birthrights?

____________________________

This is an excellent piece about the trashing that Wesley Clark is starting to get and I don't think this is the real reason why Timmy and the other mediawhores make a mockery of our democracy (it's all about money to them) but it is an interesting take. Maybe Timmy is setting up a re-run?

28. Thanks, Nannygoat! The Fineman comment should be inscribed on our Brains!
We should never forget what he admitted the Whore Press did. The Whore Press intentionally tried to "Throw a US Election" with LIES! I feel they also were in cahoots with even darker elements....but taking Fineman's comment as a stand alone.....is bad enough....without the darker elements....like what was being "plotted" in Fla!

30. "Maybe Timmy is trying to set up a re-run"
That's absolutely correct. In fact, he set up the first fiasco. I can still hear this incessant quote which he repeated for weeks leading up to the election:

"As goes Florida, so goes the nation."

Welcome to Bizarro World where pundits predict the theft of elections.
