Man headed to kill principal; shoots cop instead

Prosecutors: Man Accused of Shooting Trooper Was Headed to Home of Ex-Boss
July 6, 2005, 05:49 PM

By BILL DRAPER
Associated Press Writer

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- A man accused of shooting a state trooper in May was on his way to the home of his ex-boss with two Molotov cocktails and an assault rifle when he was pulled over for erratic driving, Jackson County prosecutors said Wednesday.

Tommy Ray Rollins Jr. is accused of shooting Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper Brandon Brashear several times after the patrolman pulled him over on Interstate 470 in Lee's Summit on May 28.

Rollins, 26, of Grandview, was charged Wednesday with first-degree assault and unlawful possession of an illegal weapon. He also faces charges of assault of a law enforcement officer and armed criminal action.

Prosecutor Michael Sanders said Wednesday that Brashear intercepted Rollins before he could do any harm to Dred D. Scott, a principal with the Raytown School District who had fired Rollins in October.

4. The whole story is just too odd
The guy shot a cop, went to a bar and told folks there he had just shot a cop. But he meant to blow up a principal. And that principal's name - Dred Scott - how much goofier can it get?

3. A big dose of personal responsibility is needed here
"The society's what caused me to do what I did. Just look at the society we live in."

I call bullshit.

I'm glad the officer survived the attack and hope that he doesn't have any lasting injuries.
