2. Kings Cross

is a huge station connected to the St. Pancras station, housing the Tube, rail station & Thamelink. There is a lot of construction going on there & it was almost finished when I was there last month. I pray for all the people in London that everyone finds their way home safe & sound.

3. I keep having mental flashbacks

to the Kings Cross fire. I was there earlier that day, not long before the fire broke out, and the thought of being trapped in the tunnels there is terrifying.

God, I hope they learned something from that and that these people can be evacuated soon.

Even if you see something fishy you might not be able to do anything about it. I'm just glad I don't have any place in particular to go today.

8. The thing is,

if you live outside of London in a place where the London-bound trains terminate at Kings Cross, then you don't have a choice. We live about 15 miles from Leeds and all the Leeds-to-London trains end up at Kings Cross. If we lived in a different area, the London trains might terminate at a different mainline station.

The Kings Cross fire started because of someone tossing a lit cigarette onto a wooden escalator, where it caught fire. They replaced all of those escalators years ago, plus banned smoking on the Underground part of the station.

During the years the IRA was still active, it didn't matter which station you were in, it was as likely as any other to be under threat. I think it's the same today, it was just bad luck that Kings Cross was one of the places where there was a bomb. People decided a long time ago that we can't let our lives grind to a halt out of fear.
