Coordinated train attacks are what scare me the most about NYC

All sympathy to Londoners - this just got me thinking.

The subways and Penn and Grand Central Stations crowd with hundreds of thousands of people every day. The thought of cordinated bombings scares the shit out of me.

1. I think of that everytime I'm in NYC

I take the Amtrak into Penn every couple of weeks, and that scenario has crossed my mind too, unfortunately. :-(

I've got better things to do than be freaked out.
The closest I've ever personally come to death was in the Midwest in a nice safe college town a decade ago.
When it comes it comes, what's the point of freaking out about it?

the best preparation is to not freak out.
On a societal level? Different answer.

The evening of 9-11, after watching the news and going out on the street and going back home, I said the hell with this -- all these evil voices of militarism etc and freaking out aren't helping me any, so I put some John Coltrane on the stereo (starting with "Spiritual" from Live at the Village Vanguard) and listened to him the rest of that evening. That's what I mean about not freaking out.

14. Oh no doubt - that's the best approach on a personal level. I don't know

how to stop it from happening - the Israeli-type approah is not an option - I'm just seeing nothing to stop it from happening. I'll still ride the subways and all.

7. it's hard to be scared

if i'm gonna be taken from here, being afraid of that isn't going to stop it.

i'm afraid of NYC trains because they're not coLor-codes. x(

If I'm gonna go I'm gonna go - I'll still ride the Iron Worms but the thought is always just in the back of my mind

8. Penn and the subways are my daily reality

as I commute into Manhattan, and I think about it every day. I try to avoid crowds, move along quickly, and get out from under as quickly as possible. I find the commute to be heart-poundingly terrifying at times.

I know many folks are fatalistic about this, but I can't be; I support three children and I know their lives would be poorer without me. I truly wish our government was doing positive things to mitigate this danger to my children's future, and not engaged in genocide around the world.

10. The stations were crowded with police officers this morning

It doesn't really calm my nerves, since it seems they aren't there to prevent anything from happening, they are there in case something does. :shrug:

My two brothers live in Manhattan. My office is based there. I don't worry about myself as much, but I do worry about them and their families.

15. I take the PATH train from Jersey City into Manhattan

every day and then a bus to my place of work in the Meatpacking District.

The PATH train stopped at every station for what seemed like forever and Port Authority police would check the train, then tell the conductor to go ahead and leave. Very uncomfortable.

However, what's the sense in worrying? If a bomb were to explode, there would be nothing I could do. I can't let terrorists dictate how I should live and enjoy my life.

I love this city and its people. As far as I'm concerned, the terrorists and fearmongers can just simply kiss my big ass.

We travel to NYC frequently.

I never think about terror on the subway system...if you let that "lock you up" where is it NOT crowded in the Big Apple!

17. Yes - that's also how I feel - it's not paralyzing fear but it's a tragedy

that I would have said "I saw that coming" if it happened. It's horrible incidents like today that bring it to the front of my mind.
