David Horowitz strikes again

I believe he is wrong and that he shows a fundamental lack of understanding of the British people.

not David Horowitz.

7. Sorry, you're right - my brain didn't process that it wasn't Horowitz.

I think I automatically figured it was like something he would say.

I still don't agree with what Horovitz had to say, even though I got the wrong guy (I should've looked at his photograph and I would have realized right away it was a different person altogether, and I'm embarrassed about that). I'm sorry! (Damn, my first ever thread and I screw it up.)

Like I said, I still disagree with him. Britons have lived through too much over the years to go into full-on paranoia over this. I may have to eat my words, but I sincerely hope not.

How many more articles like this one -- that stoke the fires, set the language, "frame" the debate to come, and set the stage -- will be written, and read today and the days to come. Listen carefully. These are not just words, whether written or spoken... these are the low, steady beat of the drums of war. Bet on it.

4. I don't have a problem with what he is saying.

The events of today will change Britian for a few years. I think the paranoia that we went through after 11/Sept. has disipated but it was definitely there at a high level for a while.

i was appalled at the insincere gnashing and wailing 9-11 was often portrayed.

maybe it's my age -- but much of post 9-11 seemed manufactured -- there was so little true reflecting that went on.

they pulled paranoia and flags out faster than you could get to church and start praying, meditating, thinking about the dead and what happened.

8. I don't really remember people being that paranoid,

and I was just about to start my second year of a degree at the University of Bradford when 9/11 happened. Bradford University has a student population that is about 20% Muslim (I wish I had a link for that but I don't - I was told that number by the women's advisor on my course) and most student housing is in an area highly populated by Muslims. For that matter, the entire city has a high Muslim population. I was in Bradford 5 days a week at the time and didn't notice much of a difference at all, and as an American I was expecting it. The paranoia just wasn't there.

Maybe it was different in other parts of the country.
