Today, I am from London. I don't care if the attack will help, or hurt, Mr. Blair. I don't care if support for the Iraqi War will now increase among the people of England. I don't care if the conservatives in this country blame the terrorist attacks on Liberals.
Today I don't care because, today, I am from London. My support for the people of England transcends my own political opinions.
To any people from the UK reading this: Stay strong. Tony Blair is immanently more qualified to deal with a national emergency than our own president.
God Bless.

English people?
sadly i do. i also care about innocent people being hurt, whether in London, New York, Spain, or Iraq, or anywhere else on this planet.
i hurt for the innocently dead and wounded people and i hurt for their families. i grieve for them.
but i also grieve for how george bush and tony blair will use this London string of explosions to continue to milk their war on terror with more terror and more wars, and more lies, and more contortions of the truth.
i grieve for how all the JESUS-FREAKS, HOLLY ROLLERS and other RIGHTWING NUTS will be hooked into an evergrowing support of these two criminals who have created a breeding ground of hate against our countries and against innocent people.
VIOLENCE BEGETS VIOLENCE. THAT IS WHAT TONY BLAIR AND GEORGE W. BUSH are doing. VIOLENCE IS NEVER STOPPED WITH MORE VIOLENCE. Somehow there has to be an end to all this madness and the way that George Bush and Tony Blair are going about it will never get us there.

25. Today, I don't. The Brits will not give into fear like we did post 9/11. |
|
Edited on Thu Jul-07-05 10:49 AM by brainshrub
What allowed the Bush Administration to kill Iraqis, erode our human rights and justify torture was: fear.
Londoners will give not give into fear the way most Americans did post 9/11. The British have more experience dealing with terrorist attacks than the US did, a corporate-free press, a parliament that forces the head-of-state to answer questions and a competent leadership.
Americans had none of those tools at their disposal. I am confident that our brothers and sisters in the UK will act wisely, so I have no qualms standing with them today.
The British outlasted Napoleon and Hitler; they surely will outlast terrorists and the oligarchs that want to use terrorism as a means to gain more power.
Londoners will pick themselves up with have the strength, character and tenacity they are famous for. It makes me proud to be from London today.

Thank you. I called my good friend who has family in London and everyone is okay. My heart aches for those who have lost loved ones in this senseless violence.
Today I, too, am from London.
edit: saying one is from London today is merely a metaphor for being in support of the poor citizens who have to endure the policies of their idjit leaders

This deep darkness hitting us in the tummy , shows us once again , we all live in one world .We are all human beings , this is policy nor politics of nation or belief .It's a feeling we have as human beings .
It does emphasize the closeness between the US and Europe .We in Europe all feel that sadness when America is hit by tragedy and torpor ,and america feels the same for Europe .No matter how loud mouthed the idiot is , the people remain the same .
your mere statements , bear more staunchness to dark and heinous deeds than this president has shown up to this point .

How tragic. All those bombing places were ones where i've ridden the same transport. In my mind, i can travel between Aldgate and Liverpool street. Rush hour would have the train about as packed as teh number 4 train in NYC between grand central and wall street.
Since liverpool street is sorta like "wall street", it would be like having a train blow up between wall street and bowling green.
Edgeware road gets the kings cross traffic, as well as the picadilly line at that time. Kings cross is a train station like grand central station in NYC. Then people get on the tube to get around in london. Again, the targets, white middle-class commuters.
The bus in russel square happened a little later. They probably figured that the tube would be shut down after the inital blasts so timed another one on alternate transport. Russel square is a posh area, with the elite business class around the place.
It strikes me that they attacked the stalking ground of the uppper classes who run the banking and media industries. They did not attack the stalking ground of the government people.
Clearly they as well, took a lesson in the refocusing of police on edinburgh for some petty rioting, in how to take advantage of the misplaced security measures... protecting the leaders and not the country.
How tragic and sad that people die in wars... like drive by shootings. One gang shoots a WTC, and another shoots Afganistan in retalation, and then Iraq in retaliation and now London in retaliation... bloody enraged fools will keep up this stupid senseless murder... but there is some complicity in the london banking/finance to the imperial american adgenda, and it seems there is a price to pay in AQ's eyes for that complicity.

Different situations require different sentiments.
London and England are in no danger of extermination; Iraq and the Iraqi people are. Poetic gestures of solidarity for England are most important today for their suffering; daily acts of dissent and rebuke toward Team Bush are most vital to the people of Iraq.
The atrocities committed in the name of my country (and eventually myself) fill me with disgust. But all atrocities are evil, and all victims deserve our concern.

You can not quantify the weight of two wrongs. The situation in Iraq is bad, we on this board have spent 3 years talking about how horrible it is, what happened to london is also bad. If people want to stand with a country that is both mother and sister to us, then so be it.
