So, I called my repug mother in law |
|
Often, she doesn't turn on the TV in the mornings, and I wanted to make sure that she knew about London. She said she was watching the local CBS affiliate, but that they were showing regular programming. She knew about the bombing because her husband was at work and heard it on the radio and called her. It seemed as though she didn't care at all. she could easily flip to CNN or some other channel to get the story. I told her that Blair had gone home from the summit to take care of his people. she then said that "that summit was probably why the bomb happened". What???? Of course, she's a compassionate conservative, let's not forget.

were yapping while it was on the radio (I asked the driver to turn on the news). Didn't seem like it mattered to many on the van.

2. I just don't understand |
|
On 9/11, most of the world was with us as we grieved. Now, London, our ally, has been hit, yet these compassionate conservatives don't even want to hear about it? Do they not want to hear because it means that the world ISN'T safer after all?

3. The "death toll" of these attacks... |
|
...doesn't really rise to the level of which US citizens will pay much attention. We kill more in a single bombing run, and they've been conditioned to accept 1700+ soldiers deaths with, "More than that died in one day of WWII". Bush may miscalculate if he thinks he is going to milk this.

9. I'm not saying it's right... |
|
...I'm just saying the US public has been conditioned to only respond to a certain threshold of violence. Now, if a pretty white woman were missing in the tunnels, we might see more concern.

10. Oh, I know what you mean |

I didn't think that you thought it was right. I'm asking myself how someone can be like that. I feel like I'm going to throw up.

4. my local stations didn't cover it much |

I'm disgusted by the apathy the American media (local network affiliates, at least) on this.
I'm off to complain to mine.

9-11 was 3000 people. this is just a typical day in iraq. we're all getting used to the body counts.
plus the british aren't us. they're LIKE us, but they aren't us. unless it happens to us, it just isn't that important to the average american.

Those Yerpeans are a bunch of left wing socialists who don't have morals and don't support our war in Iraq and on terorism.

8. I guess that's her mindset |

We live outside of Houston, quite close to chemical plants and refineries that are not secure. You would think she'd pay attention, if for no other reason than to see what's going on.
