A Brit writes...
Thank you for the many messages of support and solidarity we've read here today.

Very sad to see some here mocking others for the way they expressed their feelings but then that's free speech, right? Someone's bound to say something you don't particularly want to hear. The overwhelming response from DU has been just what I'd expect, and is much appreciated.

Your halfwit leader and our dimwit PM are the ones responsible by their actions for this atrocity.

I would imagine we're all in agreement about this. All on the same side wherever we're from.

The message from those claiming responsibility says, in part, "Britain is now burning with fear, terror and panic in its northern, southern, eastern, and western quarters."

Well it isn't, so fuck them.

And thank you

I'm still waiting to hear from a few of my friends over there, but I'm pretty sure they're OK.

The British, and particularly Londoners have been through much worse than this...

I'm sure our Dear Leaders will do everything they can to make things worse, not better. Good luck to you.

And like you said B&B are responsible and I guess we need to put and end to their reigns to make things right.

Its just too surreal. I really can't comprehend the implications of this day, but hope that you, your family and country know that our hearts and thoughts are with you. Vigilance.

9. Bless you and I pray that you are right about this:
"Your halfwit leader and our dimwit PM are the ones responsible by their actions for this atrocity. I would imagine we're all in agreement about this."

All of us at DU are in agreement about this, but what do you think will be true for the British people? Will they react like the US and approve of an expanded war? Or will they react like the Spainards did and push for getting their troops out of Iraq and for the real justice that will end terrorism?

O8)

Who do these people think they're messing with? The Germans could dish it out on a scale these a-holes can only dream of. It always amazes me how tough talking the war mongers are while they bomb innocent civilians. 6 of Bush/Blair types = half a dozen al Queda.

Mr. Blur, I was in midtown Manhattan on 9/11 and today is a total flashback for me. Your message contains all the same feelings that I felt on that day; anger at the policies that expose us to danger and disgust at those who slaughter innocent people.

If my experience is any guide at all, Londoners still have a world of emotions to deal with. Rage will give way to grief and deep sorrow for those who paid the dearest price, especially as their personal stories come to light. The whole city will wake up tomorrow wishing it was just a bad dream. Life gets back to normal but it's not quite the same...

In New York City, our hearts are truly with you on this day.

It is ALWAYS the innocents who pay the price for poor leadership.

Maybe, just maybe, this will wake up some more who have been asleep.

Contrary to what our imbecile claims, the world is clearly not a safer place today than it was on 9/11.

I'm so sorry for what Britain is experiencing today.

With you in spirit.

22. Thanks for posting. These bombings are horrible and tragic.
I am so very sorry that all of those people have been killed and injured.

I love London. I've visited there twice. It is a lovely city.

I was there when there were IRA bombings right before Christmas in the early 1990s. It was really scary. There was a bomb on a Underground carriage and there was a huge bomb on a train line into London which left a giant crater in the tracks. Victoria Station was closed for a day. There was massive security at Gatwick. I continued to ride the Underground. There would be announcements about unattended packages and bags being destroyed if not immediately claimed. The announcements were startling but I was glad that security was so tight.

I was amazed at how the residents of the city refused to let the IRA terror disrupt their lives. People continued to ride the Underground, the buses and the commuter trains. The British survived WWII, IRA terror and you will soldier through this awful event. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. God bless.

Well put mr blur, we all said prior to the Iraq war that it would cause terrorism not prevent it. "Your halfwit leader and our dimwit PM are the ones responsible by their actions for this atrocity." puts the blame at the right place.

All over our news, words like Londoneers in "terror," "running for lives," etc., as McCain (a Republican supporter of the Prez) saying more people "here" could support their troops now.

At least half of us aren't buying it, but I'm glad to hear you're ok. I'm saddened that innocent people died in this. Saddened.

44. If only the leaders from both of our countries would open their
eyes and see that they created the atmosphere for these attacks. We cannot and should not try to "kill them all". We are only festering more hatred by trying to do so. I certainly don't know what the answer is, but I do know it's not what we are doing now. Right now I just wish the US had an intelligent man in charge; a man who could think on his feet and try to solve this problem without attacking yet another country. I'm truly sorry that Tony Blair entangled England in this mess as deep as he has, and I am sorry for England's loss today; it breaks my heart.

49. This attack directly affected London, but the fear and horror from it
spread much wider - which was the idea of the monsters who planned it. It could just as easily have been in New York, or Chicago, or Rome.

I feel grief and compassion for those who now will have to live with greater fear for themselves and their families every day, and especially for those whose families and friends were victims of this monstrous plot.

Blair is not stupid as Bush is; his motivations are different. But together, these two men and their enablers and the global network that profits in some way from their crimes, must be held accountable for what they have done to us all. We must work together to accomplish this. Already we have relied on the UK press to break through the blockade on truth that stifles dissent in the US.

I woke up to the news and frankly feel numb ... dumbfounded. Yesterday, I was thrilled that London got the Olympic bid though I normally don't care about such things. I have an inexplicable almost innate affection for England and its people. I've lived in Austria and Italy, and while fascinated and admiring of their respective cultures ... I felt like a casual observer. I feel more tied to the English, if that makes any sense at all. Days ago I solidified plans to make my first trip to London - in August. Oddly, I have no apprehension or reservation about this trip. In my eyes, absolutely nothing has changed (in my desire to visit). My heart goes out to you today.
